About the Organization A pioneering not-for-profit affordable housing developer and community programs initiator in New York City, Settlement Housing Fund, Inc. has worked since 1969 to create more than 9,000 apartments through 73 affordable rental and homeownership development projects. Settlement Housing presently owns and maintains 50 buildings with more than 3,100 apartments throughout New York City, with concentrations of housing and services in the Mt. Eden and Fordham Heights sections of the Bronx, Crown Heights, Brooklyn, the Lower East Side, as well as other sites throughout Manhattan. The organization is working on a growing pipeline of new construction and preservation projects throughout the city, and expanding its Resident Engagement Services to meet the housing stability needs of households leaving shelter and other at-risk tenants.



Settlement Housing Fund is the parent organization of The Crenulated Company, LTD dba New Settlement which was created in 1989 with the acquisition of 14 abandoned buildings from the City of New York. New Settlement has evolved into a robust social service organization offering a range of community-based services in education, college access, youth development, arts, workforce development, community organizing, wellness and other key services that provide important resources to the neighborhood's youth and families. New Settlement's success has been achieved through close collaboration with a wide range of educational institutions, housing and community development organizations, businesses, youth development and social service agencies - in the neighborhood, Bronx-wide, across New York and nationally. The programs at New Settlement are supported by local, state and federal government agencies, as well as foundations, corporations, organizations  
Description

 

JOB SUMMARY: The role of the Temporary Intake Specialist is to collect documentation required to screen applicants for affordable housing. Document collection may be completed virtually or in person as directed by the Department head. This assignment will run through December 31, 2023.

Job Duties include but not limited to:

  • Collect detailed employment, financial and other personal documentation from tenants and applicants of affordable housing
  • Assisting with housing lotteries
  • Responding to questions from applicants
  • Extensive data entry
  • Perform other duties as reasonably requested.

 

 
Position Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE:

  • High school diploma; College degree a plus.
  • Bookkeeping and customer service skills a plus
  • Computer literacy with Microsoft Office Suite
  • Excellent writing, oral communication skills
  • Attention to detail and excellent follow-through
  • Ability to multi-task and work in a dynamic, busy workplace and to be flexible to changing needs of department
  • Able to work both independently and as part of a team
  • Multi-lingual or bi-lingual a plus.
  • Able to relate to persons of diverse backgrounds and to discuss sensitive personal information with applicants
  • Commitment to providing affordable housing for low-to-moderate income population
