Job Requirements: The Animal Care Team is responsible for providing the general care and upkeep of all animals in the hospital. Ensuring that all animals that enter the hospital have a clean and comfortable environment, while being cared for by compassionate and attentive individuals. Team members also help with maintaining the clinic and its grounds for additional cleanliness and organization.

Reports To: Animal Care Team Manager

Responsibilities Include:

  • Clean and sanitize all kennels, cages, and all animal holding areas.

  • General care such as bathing, feeding, walking, and cleaning up after animals.

  • Monitoring patients hourly and documenting temperament, eliminations, possible signs of illnesses, diseases, or injuries and other basic needs of the animals.

  • Maintain the clinic as a whole by performing tasks including, but not limited to, sweeping/mopping floors, wiping counters, taking out trash, cleaning bathrooms, and checking equipment and supplies.

  • Assisting other staff members on occasion with such tasks as helping restrain an animal, helping clients with their pets, etc.

  • Be knowledgeable of and complete daily activities including:
    • Use of patient tracking software
    • Contribute to team health and engagement by being supportive, assisting with new hire training and attending and contributing to team meetings.

CAPABILITIES: Must be able to multi-task, have good communication skills, organizational ability, problem solving skills, client service skills and intellectual ability.

  • Language Ability: Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.
  • Math Ability: Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio and percent.
  • Reasoning Ability: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

PHYSICAL CONSIDERATIONS:

  • The noise level in the work environment is moderately high.
  • Requires sufficient ambulatory skills in order to perform duties while at hospital.
  • Ability to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, and climb as well as manipulate (lift, carry, move) up to 50 pounds.
  • Requires good hand-eye coordination, arm-hand-finger dexterity with the ability to grasp, and visual acuity to use a keyboard and operate equipment.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
  • Associate is routinely exposed to a variety of pets that may bite or scratch, and on occasion, exposed to anesthesia, radiation, biological hazards and medication/controlled substances.

Preferred Experience, Education and/or Training: This an entry level position, training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities is a plus. High school diploma or equvilant preferred. Good oral and written communication skills. Animal Handling experience encouraged, but not required.
