The Academy Museum of Motion Pictures furthers the understanding, celebration, and preservation of cinema through inclusive and accessible exhibitions, screenings, programs, initiatives, and collections. Reporting to the Senior Manager, Media Production, the Coordinator helps schedule the creation of media montages, edit sessions, sound mixes, interview tapings, film shoots, and color grading sessions with contracted personnel and third-party vendors. You will also oversee the production of final montages, clips, and other media sources required for exhibitions, projects, and programs at the museum with both internal sources and outside vendors. 

This position is represented by a union. 

You Will:

  • Maintain clear communication between the Museum’s internal teams and external freelance contractors as needed.
  • Work with the internal media production team to set clear goals and timelines for the production process. Ensure that all team members have all the elements necessary to complete their tasks.
  • Maintain, update, and track internal checklists and tracking documents.
  • Review and track notes and feedback from internal teams during the creative rough cut and post-production finishing processes. Ensure that they are clearly communicated to necessary stakeholders both internally and externally. 
  • In collaboration with rights and clearance staff, identify and catalogue film clips and sources for license agreements. Generate Music Cue Sheets and Edit Decision Lists when necessary.
  • Review and track feature film proxy screeners to generate rough cut media.
  • Create footage request documents for external source providers.
  • Inspect, identify, track, and catalog all incoming and outgoing film and video elements for quality and content. Including both physical and digital assets, quality checking all deliverables to ensure that all delivery specifications and quality standards have been maintained.
  • Upload, download, backup and copy all production elements following department standards and policies.
  • Travel to pick-up, drop off media assets when necessary. 
  • Archive finished media and digital assets on LTO. 
  • Oversee editing sessions with third-party vendors, focusing on quality and accuracy to maintain curatorial vision. 
  • When necessary, create edits or perform fixes to gallery media; Including but not limited to the creation, editing and quality checking of open captions and graphics in both English and Spanish languages.
  • Generate still image pulls from source media clips as needed.
  • Place orders for media elements such as DVDs or Blu-rays as needed, maintaining a record of all orders and elements. 
  • Generate proxy screeners with internal visible timecode as needed.
  • Distribute edits and updates to the necessary internal teams as needed.
  • Transcode and encode video files to meet required specifications as needed.
 
Position Requirements

You Have:

  • A bachelor’s degree in film studies or related field.
  • 2+ years’ experience with digital image files.
  • Experience with digital image files and computer editing software preferred.
  • Excellent knowledge of the media production process.
  • Proficiency working in Premier Pro, Photoshop, Media Encoder, Final Cut Pro, and other Adobe Creative Could software.
  • Knowledge of digital file formats, codecs, and methods of delivery. Experience with file organization and disc space management.
  • Experience operating film-handling viewing equipment.
  • Experience using standard computer word processing and database software.
  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with Academy staff, donors, vendors, maintenance technicians, and visitors.
  • Basic knowledge of film history and video and film technologies.
  • Excellent organizational skills.

The expected hourly wage for this role is $24.00. The actual base pay offered will be determined by factors such as experience, skills, training, location, certifications, education, and other factors permitted by law. Decisions will be made on a case-by-case basis.
