Position Overview

The Business Analyst will be a member of the Stony Brook Medicine's CIN Population Health IT Team. The candidate will work with end users to understand their clinical and business workflows, document use cases, functional requirements and develop data analytics that will be used to support the daily operations of our Clinically Integrated Network.

This candidate will work in a fast-paced environment as part of a multi-disciplinary project team responsible for ensuring the ongoing management and improvements on the Population Health platform required for tracking and reporting on the quality and performance measures programs.

The Business Analyst will become knowledgeable with Cerner's Population Health product suite and assist in a manner that enhances efficiency and promotes quality in patient care. This will include frontline support on Cerner's Population Health Management suite of products (HealtheRegistries, HealtheAnalytics, HealtheEDW, and HealtheCare). End-users will include clinical providers and all levels of clinical and operational support staff.

The successful candidate will bring a balance of creative problem solving, hands-on data analytics, manipulation and practical software integration skills. The specialist will provide day to day technical support to management and assist management in making strategic data-related decisions by analyzing data, finding actionable insights and work with leadership to drive change across Stony Brook Medicine's reporting enterprise.

Position Requirements

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Mathematics, Statistics, other related applied science field.
  • Minimum of 5 years professional experience in a similar role as a Data Analyst within a fast paced data driven environment.
  • 5 to 7+ years’ experience in data mining, large scale data acquisition, transformation, validation and cleansing of both structured and unstructured data from disparate data sources.Experience with database schema design, modeling and designing database tables that facilitate efficient information retrieval.
  • Proficient knowledge of SQL –
    • Working with SQL server or Oracle; able to write sound, efficient, and proper SQL statements ensuring stability, reliability, and performance of databases.
    • Experience with stored procedures and able to query complex datasets and derive conclusions, including using all types of joins between multiple tables.
    • Skilled at optimizing large complicated SQL statements using indexes and knowledge of best practices.
  • Competency in data manipulation and analysis; accessing raw data in varied formats with different methods and analyzing and processing data.
  • The candidate must have programming proficiency with analytical platform software and BI systems expertise including but not limited to Business Objects, SQL and Tableau.
  • Considerable experience with statistical tools and methods to incorporate statistical results into analyses.
  • Ability to turn vague concepts and asks into well-documented and effective business metrics and insights.
  • Experience translating business objectives to system requirements.
  • Excellent communication, decision making, and problem-solving skills.
  • Highly detail oriented and organized with the ability to work in a fast paced, team-based environment.
  • Advanced trouble shooting and multi-tasking skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Working knowledge of the Electronic Health Record and/or other clinical information support systems.
  • Demonstrated understanding of clinical workflows.
  • Experience with preparing and conducting “Train the Trainer” education and training sessions.
  • Ability to collaborate with education department to develop and revise the training curriculum and supporting materials.
  • Ability to triage, troubleshoot, diagnose, and resolve problems through to resolution.
  • Ability to identify opportunities for process and quality improvement.
  • Previous experience with providing customer service to business and clinical teams.
