GENERAL PURPOSE OF JOB:

Performs paraprofessional case aide services for court-ordered visits and direct childcare. The Family Time Coach implements the DHS Parenting Program, prioritizing and promoting reunification and family relationships, and other life skills. During supervised visits, the Coach will use evidence-based curriculum to provide parents with parenting skills. Provides support to caseworkers and transportation as needed. Provides other support to the department as requested.

SUPERVISION:

Non-supervisory position.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

Family Time:

  • Implements the Human Services Parent coaching program and follows selected curriculum. Follows all internal family time guidelines and expectations. Duties include but are not limited to intervention, assessments, coaching, scheduling visits and providing transportation.
  • Conducts assessments of parent/caregiver-child interactions to determine need of intervention from the Family Time Program. Intervention may include coaching, monitored visits, and group family time. Recommend the appropriateness of unsupervised time based on assessments.
  • Models appropriate interactions with children and engages children in meaning play including learning games and activities designed to enhance their knowledge and social skills. Provides information to parents about child development, child management, nutrition, and how to engage with their children.
  • Supports the goal of family reunification and family relationships. Encourage health family relationships and self-confidence.

Caseworker Support:

  • Provides feedback to parents and the caseworker assigned to the case on family interactions and observations. Observations are reported to caseworker in written form or verbally.

Family Life Skills:

  • Assists parents and caregivers with essential life skills development including but not limited to household management, housekeeping, organization, nutrition and food preparation, and child safety.
  • Assists families in navigating the system through providing referral information, familiarizing individuals with available services and providing support and follow-up.

Administrative:

  • Performs assigned duties related to clerical work, data entry, and other general supportive tasks.

Position Requirements

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education & Experience:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Three (3) years previous working experience which should include customer service, direct childcare, and working with public and families in a similar capacity.

Licenses & Certifications:

  • Valid Driver’s License

Preferred Experience:

  • Previous experience in a human service-related position.
  • Bachelor’s in Social Work or a Human Services related field.
  • Bilingual in English & Spanish

Work environment is primarily office based and requires extended periods of sitting.

REQUIRED TRAVEL

Work is conducted in a variety of County buildings located throughout the County. Travel between worksites is required. Travel to clients homes is also required. Occasionally, the position requires travel for site visits, trainings, or other meetings.

Work Hours:

Work is generally performed Monday – Friday, between 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. Work hours and schedule are determined by the needs of the department, which may include non-traditional business hours.

TECHNOLOGY:

Computer and relevant software applications; standard office equipment, email, and relevant databases. Statewide client information system (TRAILS).
