After 1st Year: $21.4709 Hourly ($44,660)
After 2nd Year: $22.0513 Hourly ($45,867)
After 3rd Year: $22.6674 Hourly ($47,148)
After 4th Year: $23.3165 Hourly ($48,498)
After 5th Year: $23.9524 Hourly ($49,821)
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Sixty (60) semester hours of college coursework AND one year experience working directly with volunteers.
OR
Two (2) years’ experience in the coordination of volunteers.
Special Requirements
Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
Must be willing to work weekends and irregular hours.
Must have a valid Michigan driver’s license; good driving record.
GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES: Oversees all aspects of the volunteer program including communications, recruitment, training, retention, recognition, and placement, as well as a range of administrative duties. The Volunteer Coordinator serves as the on-site point of contact for volunteers and supports communication between volunteers and various departments/programs. Works under the supervision of the Deputy Director of the Animal Control; performs related duties as required.
STATEMENT OF TASKS:
- Coordinates volunteer program;
- Actively recruits volunteers, performs volunteer orientation, oversees volunteer training;
- Trains, mentors and serves as primary contact for all volunteers, excluding fosters;
- Provides leadership and guidance to volunteers;
- Screens volunteer applications and conducts new volunteer orientation;
- Assures compliance with volunteer manual, guidelines and policies and procedures;
- Proactively works to ensure optimum coverage of volunteers for the organizations needs;
- Acts as a liaison between staff and volunteers;
- Coordinate with volunteers to produce enrichment activities;
- Works closely with Foster/Rescue Coordinator to ensure all fosters and volunteers are managed
- effectively and cohesively.
- Assures the volunteer Adoption Counselors receive the necessary training and support to perform their responsibilities, including the potential to approve adoptions;
- Represents the county and shelter at public events for public speaking engagements, community meetings, events, etc.
- Participate in regular adoption events off-site and on-site events;
- Works to promote and maintain positive public relations within the community;
- Develops and coordinates implementation of special events and programs;
- Performs research for promotional opportunities related to Animal Control;
- Maintains records and develops reports as required or requested;
- Performs related duties as assigned.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Thorough knowledge of volunteer programs;
- Thorough knowledge of Microsoft Office applications, especially Word, PowerPoint and Excel;
- Considerable knowledge of principles and practices of Animal Control;
- Knowledge of the use of social media and other outlets in a public relations capacity;
- Knowledge of animal behavior;
- Strong interpersonal and organizational skills;
