SUMMARY: Open Door Community Health Centers (ODCHC) prides itself on the condition of its multiple facilities. Our busy clinic sites and administrative offices require attention on an ongoing basis to maintain patient access, staff comfort and safe working conditions. ODCHC uses a variety of equipment and its consistent availability and accurate functioning is key to maintaining operations. The Equipment Specialist is responsible for monitoring the medical and dental equipment needs of the corporation, including inventory management, maintenance functions and procurement, including the installation, inspection, routine monitoring and maintenance and inventory of corporate equipment. The Equipment Specialist assists staff with questions or problems with the use and functioning of such equipment. The Equipment Specialist will often be trying to correct issues in the midst of a busy clinic or office environment, requiring flexibility, creativity and care so that operations continue with as little disruption as possible. Priorities and scheduled tasks can change rapidly; flexibility is essential.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: These essential responsibilities are performed within the context of collaboration among the Corporate Services team as well accommodation of diverse operational needs of clinic and office locations.

  • Performs basic electrical safety inspections and functional testing for medical and dental equipment; maintains documentation of all inspections;
  • Coordinates with outside vendors all required safety inspections and periodic calibrations for medical and dental equipment; documents service and inspections;
  • Diagnoses and corrects medical and dental equipment malfunctions; coordinates with outside venors for repairs beyond scope;
  • Maintains documentation on new equipment, inspections, equipment failures and repairs, including loaner equipment;
  • Tests new equipment during installation; assures appropriate functioning and calibration;
  • Tracks the movement of medical and dental clinics from clinic to clinic;
  • Assists in maintaining an accurate inventory, by location, of all medical and dental equipment; including loaner equipment;
  • Uses software approved by Facilities Department for documentation of purchases, deliveries, returns, and repairs;
  • Keeps equipment room clean and organized; delivers equipment to sites as needed;
  • Works with Finance Department to provide documentation of purchases, deliveries, returns and repairs;
  • Contributes positively to the efficiency, accessibility, productivity, quality, safety, compassion and professionalism of the work setting;
  • Adherence to ODCHC policies and protocols; and,
  • Related duties as identified, assigned and required by supervisor.

QUALIFICATIONS: The successful candidate will possess experience and skills spanning a variety areas:

  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to establish supportive working relationships among a diverse workforce;
  • Ability to follow instructions given verbally or in writing, including product use and assembly instructions and technical procedures;
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing and effectively exercise sound and responsible judgment;
  • High School Diploma or GED;
  • Two or more years of experience in a medical or dental clinic system;
  • An insurable driving record and California Driver’s License as well as the ability to drive to distant clinics and other ODCHC facilities.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: The Equipment Specialist has no supervisory responsibility.

SUPERVISION AND SUPPORT: The Equipment Specialist works independently at times and with others in Corporate Services, including managers, and with outside vendors depending on the size and complexity of the task in a collaborative manner.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: This is largely an active, physical and out-of-the-office position. The physical requirements described are representative of those needed to successfully perform the essential duties of the position. Reasonable accommodation will be made to allow otherwise qualified candidates to perform these functions.

  • Speaking and hearing sufficient to communicate effectively by telephone or in-person at normal volumes;
  • Vision adequate to read documents, computer screens, forms and designs, differentiate colors as necessary, and machine parts, pieces and functions;
  • Good Manual Dexterity;
  • Ability to lift and carry packages and boxes weighing up to 50 pounds;
  • Ability to reach above shoulder level and to squat, bend, sit, stand and negotiate stairs;
  • Ability to move around the interiors and exteriors of facilities as needed.

Hiring Range $19.61 to $23.52
