Job Classification: Exempt

Job Hours: Full-Time (Mon-Fri, 10-6pm w/evening and weekends required for performances. City Center offers a flexible work policy with two remote days per week.)

Job Overview: This position serves as a senior member of City Center’s Development team overseeing fundraising efforts focused on current and prospective donors capable of giving $25,000+. They will direct all facets of the major gift’s portfolio including strategy, solicitation, benefit fulfillment, administration, reporting, and prospect and moves management. They will also oversee City Center’s planned giving program (Fiorella La Guardia Society) with a focus on prospecting and growth. The Director of Leadership and Planned Gifts is expected to demonstrate a passion for fundraising, while upholding City Center’s mission and our commitment to be an anti-racist organization.

Responsibilities:

  • Partner with VP of Development to lead a cohesive major gifts program that successfully stewards current donors and provides a framework for cultivating prospective donors.

  • Manage an individual portfolio of major donors ($25k+) and prospects as well as successfully solicit major gifts; think creatively about how to structure and package asks for specific donors for areas of support.

  • Primary Responsibility for achieving the established revenue target of $4M+ for Major Gifts agreed upon in partnership with the VP of Development, with anticipated annual growth. 

  • Provide guidance to the VP of Development and the President/CEO on annual and long-term Board giving strategy as well as Board prospecting efforts.

  • Collaborate with Manager of Donor Information and Research Assistant to ensure an efficient cohesive system for identifying and tracking major giving and planned gifts prospects. 

  • Work with Director of Individual Giving and Director of Development to develop a pipeline of major giving prospects from ticket buyers, President’s Council, and other giving levels.

  • Coordinate and collaborate with the Marketing & Communications Department on quality production of collateral materials required to support the major gifts program such as marketing, solicitation, and acknowledgement materials. 

  • Align with Senior Development colleagues and artistic leadership to create and execute innovative and targeted cultivation events and activities throughout the year.

  • Manage planned giving program (Fiorello LaGuardia Society), including marketing and donor communication and solicitation.

  • Work with VP & Chief Financial Officer on administrative matters related to planned gifts.

  • Regularly report progress to VP of Development and President/CEO on all major and planned giving related activities.

  • Support and represent City Center in Development Department and institutional activities, including special events and performances.

  • Other duties as reasonably assigned.

 
Position Requirements

Required Experience and Qualification:

  • 7+ years of fundraising experience at a performing arts or comparable institution

  • Previous experience in individual giving including demonstrated success in cultivating and soliciting major and planned gifts.

  • Mastery of principles and techniques of successful fundraising as they pertain to the identification, cultivation, and stewardship of major donor prospects.

  • Demonstrated leadership and organizational skills managing a variety of simultaneous activities efficiently and actively.

  • Interpersonal and relational skills associated with interfacing with high-net-worth individuals

  • Scheduling flexibility to attend performances and events on nights, weekends, and holidays. 

  • Proficiency with various software programs including MS Office Suite and Tessitura or CRM equivalent. 

  • Ability to approach work with a spirit of collaboration and cooperation. 

  • Ability to communicate effectively and strategically both verbally and in writing. 

  • Knowledge of fundraising best practices and procedures.

  • Must regularly move about inside the office to access cabinets, office equipment, etc.

  • Must be able to get to locations outside of the office independently, without physical assistance.

  • Must be able to lift at least 20 pounds.

  • Must be able to operate a computer and other office productivity machinery (e.g., copier, fax machine).

  • Must have vision correctable to a level where an individual can operate a computer, visualize text on a computer monitor.
