Assists in patient care during clinic visit. Responsible for the safe transport of patients via wheelchair or stretcher, dispatch services and appropriate documentation of services. Performs general receptionist and clerical duties in order to facilitate efficient functioning of the Clinical Services Department.

Essential Functions (greater than or equal to 10% of time):

Provides direct care to patients under the direct supervision of licensed personnel:

  • Performs pre-physician exam preparation (walks patient in room, takes vital signs as per area standard, and assists with EKG's).
  • Assists with obtaining information for patient care such as chart preparation, lab reports, and dictation retrieval.

Provides non–direct patient care/support services to staff under the direction of licensed personnel.

  • Assists with prescription refills.
  • Assists with insurance referrals, OMPRO's, and waivers.
  • Processes and assists with mail.
  • Assists with stocking clinical and clerical areas.
  • Assists with cleaning instrument and the autoclaving process.

Secondary Functions (less than 10% of time):

Assists with answering department telephone as needed.

Position Requirements

Education and/or Experience:

High school diploma or equivalent.

Necessary Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Provide prompt, accurate service to internal and external customers. Knowledge of clinic's exposure control plans/bloodborne and airborne pathogens. Promotes effective working relations and works effectively as part of a department/unit team interdepartmentally to facilitate the department's/unit's ability to meet its goals and objectives. Demonstrates the skills and judgment necessary to provide direct care to patients under the direct supervision of licensed personnel or Registered Nurse, and Physician. Demonstrates the skills and judgment necessary to nursing interventions. Basic knowledge of ICD-9 and CPT/HCPS coding procedures. Strong typing skills and working knowledge of computer systems, particularly with a windows-based environment. Communicate effectively with customer and co-workers. Basic knowledge of physician office documentation standards.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:

CPR certification preferred.

Lead Duties – (if assigned):

Training of new employees; Coordinate and perform in-department training, as needed; Assisting with day-to-day department needs (supplies, equipment, etc.) to ensure department stays within budget; Coordinate PTO for staff members and arrange float coverage as appropriate; Monitor provider schedules, insure that schedules are filled, utilize provider wait list as required; Continuous improvement to department processes; Works with teammates to ensure the daily work flow is efficient and patients are roomed timely and report problems and solutions within a timely manner; Responsible for adjusting staff schedules to flex up/down on busy/slow days; Participating in interview process with hiring manager, as needed; Attend meetings outside of normal business hours.

Physical Demands:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand for long periods of time. Employee may be required to sit and reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to walk as well as twist and bend. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Employee will be required to walk up and down stairs.

Work Environment:

Fast-paced environment especially in dealing with urgent care situations. Direct patient and client contact while delivering services and treatment. Frequent exposure to blood or other human bodily fluids. Some weekend and evening hours may be required during peak times. Some travel to satellite facilities may be required.
