The Portage-Geauga County Juvenile Detention Center is presently seeking an energetic and self-motivated person to join our teaching team to plan, organize, and implement an appropriate, innovative, instructional learning environment that guides and encourages students to develop and fulfill their academic and non-academic learning potentials.

 

Essential Skills:

  • Identify and select a variety of learning materials, resources, and technologies to meet students' needs, ensuring differentiation of learning styles, reflecting all abilities
  • Prepare instructional lesson plans aligned to applicable state standards
  • Effectively communicate with teachers, administrators, and home school districts to facilitate the IEP process and develop a caring, supportive, and stimulating environment which is conducive to learning
  • Exhibit a high degree of energy, creativity, cooperation, communication, and collaboration
  • Remain current on rules, regulations, and standards set forth for special education
  • Implement effective behavior management / classroom control techniques to maintain classroom safety
  • Observe, evaluate, and record students' performance and development
  • Accurately and efficiently maintain IEPs, student files, grade books, report cards, lesson plans, progress notes, and behavior / discipline records
 
Position Requirements

Accredited college / university degree; Ohio Department of Education certification / licensure to teach middle-school and/or high-school aged students (all subjects / disciplines will be considered); ability to pass all associated background checks and application requirements.
