Description

JOB SUMMARY:

Hours : 7:30AM - 4:00PM

Responsible for managing, coordinating and serving a nutritious and cost-effective food program within USDA Food Program requirements.  Supervise dishwasher staff, if applicable.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Food Preparation and Planning:

  • Order food and supplies in a timely and cost effective manner.
  • Prepare, cook, and serve nutritious breakfast, lunch and snack daily.
  • Follow YWCA menus and recipes, create and complete daily prep list.
  • Complete daily duties checklist of daily responsibilities to effectively run a shift, follow kitchen maintenance daily and weekly schedules.

Ensure compliance to USDA Food Program Requirements:

  • Prepare, handle and serve meals in accordance with requirements for food and beverage establishments.
  • Ensure that dishes, utensils, equipment, kitchen and food storage areas are cleaned and sanitized in accordance with requirements for food and beverage establishments.

Handle overall food-related site documentation and recordkeeping:

  • Maintain clean and organized food storage area.  Use FIFO practices.
  • Maintain accurate records of quantities of food prepared daily and number of children and adults eating meals in accordance with USDA Food Program requirements. (Food Production Records).
  • Ensure that food site meets safety and health requirements; implement emergency procedures.

Provide leadership for kitchen support staff (if applicable):

  • Ensure that dishes and food related areas are cleaned and sanitized in accordance with standards and delegate responsibilities to Dishwasher.

RELATIONSHIPS:

This position reports to the ECE Director* who reports to the Vice President of Early Childhood Education. The incumbent will interact with Lead Teachers, Teachers, Assistant Teachers, Associate Teachers, Teacher Aides, and Dishwasher.

 

 
Position Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS:

Required:

Education and Experience

  • High School Diploma/ General Education Degree (GED).
  • Minimum of one year related experience or equivalent combination of education and experience. 
  • At least one year of experience in quantity meal planning and preparation.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with diverse styles, cultures and perspectives.
  • Strong ability to productively resolve conflict.
  • Demonstrated ability to prioritize work and meet multiple deadlines simultaneously.
  • Excellent organizational skills.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Must successfully Complete Food Manager Certification training within 6 months of hire.

Preferred:

  • Culinary Arts Degree.
  • Current First Aid and CPR certifications.
  • Experience in cost effective food purchasing.
  • Strong understanding of nutritional and whole foods basics and USDA food program requirements.
  • One year kitchen management experience preferred.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear, stand, walk, sit, use hands to fingers, handle or feel, reach with hands and arms, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.  The employee frequently is required to climb or balance and taste or smell.  The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. Individual must have the ability to get to and from various sites/events/meetings in the metro area on an occasional basis.
