Description

OVERVIEW

This is a fellowship devoted to implementing a national program that encourages, supports, and equips local church members in taking actions focused to advance climate justice at the federal level of the United States Government.

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Serve as the lead organizer for a current campaign focused on congregations collecting petition postcards that call upon the EPA to have robust environmental rules that will protect public health and move our nation to a clean electricity grid by 2035.
  • Coach volunteers and interns on collecting postcards in church settings as well as public spaces such as farmer’s markets.
  • Call and email volunteers to check on their progress and ensure postcard data is submitted and signed postcards are mailed back.
  • Organize a public delivery of collected postcards in DC during September.
  • In collaboration with the Minister for Environmental Justice, design and implement a second yearlong campaign for 2024.
  • Conduct intensive outreach via phone and email to churches for participation in campaign events, such as art contests, kickoff calls, etc.
 
Position Requirements

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Interest in faith-based climate justice policy advocacy
  • Ability to interact effectively and sensitively with persons from diverse backgrounds;
  • Bachelor’s degree or comparable education and experience;
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills;
  • Ability to handle multiple and complex projects, set priorities, meet deadlines, and work effectively both independently and as part of a team;
  • Respect for collaborative decision-making and community planning;
  • Self-motivation, dependability, flexibility, creativity, and problem-solving skills
  • Ability and willingness to travel as needed.

 

Additional Information:

  • This fellowship can be done from a remote location in the United States or the National Setting offices of the United Church of Christ in Cleveland, Ohio.
  • Full-time position; 12-month fellowship. $36,608 per annum
