Effective immediately, a new faculty position is available in the Department of Dentistry, Holland Bloorview Kids Rehabilitation Hospital which is an academic health science centre dedicated to the care of children with special needs, affiliated with the University of Toronto. We are recruiting a Paediatric Dentist with clinical experience and a clinical research interest focused on children and youth with special needs whose treatment is best managed in a multidisciplinary environment. This position will be offered at a regular part-time (0.2 to 0.4 FTE) basis.

The Paediatric Dentist will demonstrate leadership in the provision of paediatric dentistry services to children and youth with physical, developmental and acquired disabilities, including the establishment of scholarly projects in this area. This role will be a cross-appointment to the Discipline of Paediatric Dentistry at the University of Toronto. As an integral member of our team, responsibilities will include the provision of clinical care, teaching, leadership activities and a focus on clinical research and educational scholarship.

The successful applicant must be certified by the Royal College of Dentists of Canada in Paediatric Dentistry. The successful candidate should be eligible for an academic appointment at the University of Toronto.

Holland Bloorview Kids Rehabilitation Hospital (Holland Bloorview) is Canada’s largest children’s rehabilitation hospital and is home to the Bloorview Research Institute. We are a provincial facility that sees more than 6,500 children and youth on an outpatient basis, and we have over 600 inpatient admissions each year. The Department of Dentistry at Holland Bloorview treats almost 2,000 unique paediatric clients attending more than 4,000 total visits a year, and offers a wide variety of services including: paediatric dentistry, orthodontics, oral maxillofacial surgery and prosthodontics. The mandate of Dental Services at Holland Bloorview is to provide dental care for children and adolescents with special needs.

Key Responsibilities

  • Role accountabilities will be divided 80% clinical time and 20% academic time
  • Clinical duties will include provision of paediatric dentistry services to clients with physical, developmental and acquired disabilities, and to clients registered in the MOHLTC Cleft Lip & Palate / Craniofacial Dental Program
  • The individual will be involved in the training and supervision of residents in the Dental Residency Program and of residents in the Graduate Specialty Program in Paediatric Dentistry
  • The individual will be encouraged to secure competitive research funding, publish in high impact journals and lead knowledge translation activities.
  • No on-call responsibilities

License/Membership

  • Fellowship in Paediatric Dentistry from the Royal College of Dentists of Canada
  • Eligible for an academic appointment at the University of Toronto

Experience

  • Completion of a CDA/ADA-accredited graduate program in paediatric dentistry or equivalent academic experience is mandatory

Knowledge/Skills
