Purpose of Division:

The Division of Communications & Marketing is responsible for developing and executing external and internal communications strategies on behalf of NeighborWorks America. The Communications & Marketing Division manages the public face of the organization, including visibility, brand and reputation management, visual identity as well as the public website, microsites, social media and other communication assets. The division also manages publishing and distributing NeighborWorks's print and electronic publications and videos. These include the annual report and specialized digital newsletters such as NetWorks (a digital newsletter designed for NeighborWorks network organization staff). The division also provides graphic design support to other divisions throughout NeighborWorks, provides overall content management, site development and design for NeighborWorks websites and microsites, and coordinates overall communications strategy. This involves establishing and implementing corporate-wide policies, strategies and guidelines, and coordinating audience and strategies that guide the NeighborWorks' digital presence. Communications & Marketing also coordinates the delivery of related digital services to NeighborWorks and the NeighborWorks network.

Position Summary:

Reporting to the Content Director, the Manager, Digital Media position encompasses a range of communications and marketing responsibilities to advance NeighborWorks' strategic goals and mission in three key areas: Public website and microsites, social media and digital communications. This requires project management skills as well as professional editorial skills (e.g., planning, reporting, writing, editing and proofreading) in support of NeighborWorks' communications and marketing efforts.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Administrating NeighborWorks America's social media channels. This includes managing the social media calendar in coordination with the editorial calendar, developing content and exploring new or innovative methods to increase fans, engagements and link clicks.
  • Serving as administrator, in partnership with Information Technology & Services Division, for NeighborWorks.org and three microsites: StopHomeScams.org, StableCommunities.org and NeighborWorksCompass.com. Managing overall maintenance and content management to ensure content remains up to date in line with communications and marketing strategies and 508 compliance and accessibility.
  • Writing, editing and publishing content for NeighborWorks America's digital platforms, including web pages, social media and emails, according to NeighborWorks' style guide and AP style.
  • Collaborating with other NeighborWorks' staff to create new sections or redesign existing sections of the public website or develop microsites.
  • Managing email distribution, including list segmentation, through an email marketing system, and implementing best practices for digital communications.
  • Analyzing metrics to assess overall digital performance and adjusting digital strategy accordingly.
  • Working with Director of Marketing to develop, publish and optimize social media advertising to increase event registration and applications to designated programs and initiatives.
  • Staying up to date on current issues, topics and resources related to community development, websites, social media and digital communications and marketing.
  • Leading or supporting organization-wide projects, including development of a communications plan in partnership with other divisions and key stakeholders.
  • Fluency in reading and writing Spanish appreciated but not required.

Nature of Work Contacts:
NeighborWorks America staff, network member organizations, vendors and national partners. General public, including customers and partners of local NeighborWorks organizations. Media relations contacts.

Fiscal Responsibilities:
Monitoring of digital media expenses, personal expense report submission, travel card, vendor contract monitoring and evaluation.

Minimum Qualifications:
(a) Education: A bachelor's degree in English, communications, marketing, journalism or related field.

(b) Experience: At least three (5) years’ work experience as a website content editor or similar role.

(c) Licenses, Certifications: None required.

(d) Competencies, Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing. Ability to efficiently organize work and multi-task.

(d) Technology: Website content management systems, email marketing systems, social media management and scheduling tools, project management tools, and Microsoft Office suite of applications.

Preferred Qualifications:
Experience with or knowledge of affordable housing/community revitalization issues a plus. Five (5) years’ experience writing news and feature stories strongly preferred. Knowledge in Search Engine Optimization (SEO) including Google Analytics preferred. Understanding and application of user experience and user interface. Experience with Kentico or similar CMS and SharePoint preferred. Proven ability to collaborate, mentor or coach with strong project management skills.

Working Conditions:
(a) Travel:
up to 10%.
(b) Physical/Sensory Demands: Fast paced working environment, extensive computer usage.
