This is a full-time, exempt position that includes the County's benefits package. The office location for this position can be either Rilfe or Glenwood Springs. 

Hiring pay range: PHN I - $48,776.00 - $60,964.80; PHN II - $54,392.00 - $67,995.20

Full pay range: PHN I - $48,776.00 - $73,174.40; PHN II - $54,392.00 - $81,598.40

GENERAL PURPOSE OF JOB:

Provide comprehensive professional public health nursing services in a variety of office, clinic, and community settings.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

Public Health Nurse I:

  • Under close supervision, performs routine public health nursing services for the public in offices, outlying clinics, and community settings.
  • Participates in Garfield County Public Health activities requiring RN participation and community outreach.
  • Participates in continuing education offerings.
  • Reviews all work products to ensure highest level of quality.
  • Performs emergency response roles, as requested.

Public Health Nurse II:

  • Under minimal supervision, performs all essential functions of PHN I.
  • Performs comprehensive public health nursing services for the public in offices, outlying clinics, and community settings.
  • Represents the department as a health resource person, in community health organizations, programs and activities.
  • Contributes to preceptorship of professional nursing students as assigned.
  • Participates in group teaching to client and community groups.
  • Performs emergency response roles, as required.
  • May assist with ordering and maintaining supplies necessary for program area.

Position Requirements

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

(Any combination of experience and education that would likely provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities as determined by Garfield County may be substituted for the following requirements.)

Education:

  • Associate degree or bachelor’s degree in nursing from a college or university accredited by the National League for Nursing.

Experience:

  • Public Health Nurse I: Less than one year of nursing experience.
  • Public Health Nurse II: Two years of public health nursing experience. BSN required.

Licenses & Certifications:

  • Valid driver’s license. Must have a current license to practice as a Registered Nurse in Colorado, CPR certification, and current credentials including continuing and pertinent education in the field of public health nursing.

REQUIRED PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES:

While performing the essential functions of this job the employee is frequently required to reach, grasp, finger, stand, sit, walk, talk, and hear. Occasionally required to lift and/or move up to 15 pounds.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, depth perception, peripheral vision, and ability to adjust focus. 

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Work is primarily performed in a standard medical office environment. Extended periods of sitting are required.

WORK HOURS:

  • Hours are typically 8:00am to 5:00pm Monday through Friday.
  • There may be times when an employee may need to work outside the established work week, such as after hours or on the weekend.

REQUIRED TRAVEL:

The employee will frequently be required to travel within the County.

TECHNOLOGY AND EQUIPMENT:

Computer and relevant software applications, spreadsheets, calendars, and word processing. Will also work with calculators, telephone systems, and mobile phones. Will frequently work with medical equipment such as vaccine equipment, physical assessment tools, personal protection equipment, and emergency communication devices.

NOTE: This position requires a pre-employment background check which will include a Criminal Background Check, Education Verification, Employment Verification, and Motor Vehicle Record. Employment is contingent upon successful completion of these items.
