Technical Support Gunsmith  

Description

Job Purpose: Troubleshoot firearm issues with customers via telephone and email; repair and replace firearms pursuant to company policies and procedures; assist TS&G Manager in meeting departmental goals and objectives.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Support customer warranty claims and questions by telephone and email.
  • Provide courteous and efficient customer service in a timely manner.
  • Proficiently use company’s computer software systems.
  • Repair firearms to factory specifications using hand tools and machines, such as grinders, drills, rotary tools, disk sanders, lathes, mills, and other types of equipment.
  • Install parts, such as metallic or optical sights, pistol grips, recoil pads, and decorative pieces of firearms, using screws and hand tools.
  • Ability to review product specifications, including catalog and website, for errors and performance problem areas.
  • Operate machines to grind, polish, and fit metal parts.
  • Maintain in-depth knowledge of CZ-USA product line, acting as a subject matter expert on specific lines.
  • Understands and applies types of wood, plastic, and metal coatings/finishes and styles.
  • Perform basic to complex wood and metal work.
  • Communicate effectively with CZ-USA personnel and business partners regarding changes and new technical information.
  • Compile and maintain all required paperwork, records, and documents.
  • Ability to operate and discharge firearms safely to duplicate and/or identify problems.
  • Identify and document product issues.
  • Works with Customer Service and product experts to resolve customer problems.
  • Update job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities and reading professional publications when available.
  • Teach and Mentor Firearms Technicians and Gunsmiths.
  • Assist other departments with questions pertaining to your product expertise.
  • Notify supervisory personnel of problems/concerns.
  • Complete other tasks assigned by supervisor and manager.
  • Complete all required paperwork accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Timely and regular attendance is required to ensure workflow is not interrupted.
  • Assist all employees in the department in completing their work when necessary.
  • Perform weekly machine cleaning and maintenance as well as maintain a clean and organized work area.
  • Ability to work with and safely use and apply chemicals. Solvent tank, Ultrasonic, Snail/ Lead.
  • Adhere to all company policies and procedures.

QUALIFICATIONS:

To perform this job successfully, you must be able to perform each essential job function satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills, and/or abilities required.

Education

  • Associate degree in Gunsmithing from a state-accredited gunsmith school, or equivalent experience in place of a degree.

Required Experience & Skills

  • Must have 3-5 years of in-depth Gunsmithing and/or machining experience.
  • Must understand firearm cycle of operations.
  • Basic knowledge of reloading and ballistics.
  • Thorough understanding of CZ-USA’s products and their usage.
  • Must pass basic mill, lathe and welding tests, subject to management discretion.
  • Must have a high level of critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
  • Must be proficient in spoken and written English.
  • Demonstrate a positive attitude and strong interpersonal skills.
  • Must have the ability to multitask, effectively manage time and prioritize responsibilities.
  • Must possess excellent computer skills, proficient with Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel.
  • Ability to use email and phone extensions.
  • Must be punctual and reliable.
  • Must be able to work 8 hours daily, 5 days weekly, Monday through Friday.
  • Must be able to work overtime when required.

Preferred Experience & Skills

  • Customer service experience.
  • Experience working as a gunsmith in a retail or customer service environment.
  • Currently an active shooter and reloader by hobby or by trade.

Additional Eligibility Requirements

  • Must be at least 18 years old.
  • Ability to legally possess firearms under applicable laws.
  • Must know basic firearms safety.
  • Ability to pass a criminal background test and drug test.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS & WORKING CONDITIONS:

The following are the physical requirements of this position, which all workers filling the position must be able to do or withstand each day:

  • Heavy Work: Exerting in excess of 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or in excess of 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or in excess of 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
  • Vision: The worker is required to have close visual acuity to perform activities such as: preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; extensive reading; Ability to see color.
  • Stooping: Bending body downward and forward by bending spine at the waist.
  • Kneeling: Bending legs at the knee to come to rest on the knee or knees.
  • Crouching: Bending the body downward and forward by bending the leg and spine.
  • Reaching: Extending hand(s) and arm(s) in any direction.
  • Standing: Remaining upright on the feet, particularly for sustained periods.
  • Walking: Moving about on foot to accomplish tasks, particularly for long distances or moving from one work site to another.
  • Pushing: Using upper extremities to press against something with steady force in order to thrust forward, downward, or outward.
  • Pulling: Using upper extremities to exert force in order to draw, drag, haul or tug objects in a sustained motion.
  • Lifting: Raising objects from a lower to a higher position or moving objects horizontally from position to position.
  • Fingering: Picking, pinching, typing, or working, primarily with fingers.
  • Grasping: Applying pressure to an object with the fingers and palm.
  • Feeling: Perceiving attributes of objects, such as size, shape, temperature, or texture, by touching with skin, particularly that fingertips.
  • Talking: Expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word; those activities where detailed or important spoken instructions must be conveyed to other workers accurately, loudly, or quickly.
  • Hearing: Perceiving the nature of sounds at normal speaking levels with or without correction, receiving detailed information through oral communication, and making fine discriminations in sound.
  • Repetitive motions: Making substantial movements of the wrists, hands, and/or fingers.
