About the Organization Established June 15, 1971, Valley Community Services Board is a publicly funded organization where citizens of Staunton, Waynesboro, and Augusta and Highland Counties can receive Behavioral Health, Substance Use and Developmental Services services. Valley Community Services Board serves as the single point of entry into publicly funded mental health, developmental, and substance use disorder services for these localities.

VCSB is seeking a Coalition Support Specialist to join our VCSB team! Funding for this position is guaranteed through September 30, 2025. The Coalition Specialist is a passionate and driven individual who will work to support substance misuse prevention/mental health promotion focused coalitions, work closely with youth-serving agencies to engage youth in the coalition process, and facilitate positive community and peer relations.


  • Sign-on bonus of $1,500.00 included with the first paycheck.
  • Health insurance as low as $20.00 per month for individuals. Family and dependent plans are also available.
  • Nine paid holidays.
  • Accrue up to 20 days of paid time off (PTO) per year from year one. PTO is immediately available upon accrual.

Summary of Essential Functions

  • Actively participates in Coalition meetings and workgroups; provides administrative support where needed.
  • Works with community partners to build coalition capacity and develop a youth coalition.
  • Participates in coalition action planning process and ensures implementation of selected activities.
  • Facilitates completion of a Coalition Readiness Assessment.
  • Reports time and efforts in Performance Based Prevention System database.


Minimum Qualifications

All applicants must meet the following minimum qualifications in order to be considered qualified for the position:

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college/university or combined equivalent experience and education.
  • Experience in working effectively with youth in structured programs.
  • Excellent group facilitation skills.
  • Successful completion of a thorough background check.
  • Valid Virginia driver’s license with an acceptable driving record.
Position Requirements  
Salary Information Starting at $34,201 annually, plus benefits
