Description

The primary purpose of the Graduate Assistant for Athletic Media and Events is, however not limited to, promoting and providing publicity for all aspects of the NAIA/NCCAA Intercollegiate Athletic programs; and planning, organizing, creating and implementing a positive game experience through the management of events. This is accomplished primarily through print and electronic media, internet, and publications as well as overseeing home events, game management, home stats, live streaming, and audio/visual at all home athletic events.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES The Graduate Assistant for Athletic Media and Events will report directly to the Sports Information Director and must be willing to work evenings, weekends, and summers, as needed to cover sporting events and activities.

Game Day & Events

Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

  • Setup/breakdown of gameday equipment
  • Ensure facility maintains professional appearance
  • Ensure adequate coverage of staff for all home games and events
  • Oversee ticket sales, promotions, and concession operations, scheduling workers, depositing revenue from sales and concessions post gameMaintain concession inventory
  • Create media guides/game programs
  • Maintain inventory for SID equipment
  • Consistently evaluate game day workflow and analyze for areas that need improvement or restructuring
  • Manage, organize and coordinate student workers for events

Media

Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to, assisting the SID:

  • Daily maintenance and updating as needed of the department’s website
  • Creating media pre- and post- competition in a timely manner
  • Writing, editing, and disseminating.
    • Press Releases
    • Season Previews
    • Athletic news surrounding student-athletes, coaches, teams
  • Creating ideas and maintaining social media pages for department-wide athletics
  • Maintaining historical archives
  • Managing outside events hosted by the University

Perform all other duties as assigned by the Sports Information Director

REQUIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

According to Ohio Christian University employment policy, all employees must possess a strong Christian commitment and adhere to the standards outlined in the OCU Community Lifestyle Statement.

  • Education, Training and Experience:
    • Bachelor’s Degree
    • Previous experience in athletics (event management, scheduling, media, knowledge of sports and sporting events, facilities)
  • Skill and Ability:
    • Strong public speaking skills that connect with college students and student-athletes
    • Strong administrative and organizational skills
    • Strong communication skills both verbal and written
    • Ability to network with other coaches to continue growth professionally

PREFERRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Education, Training and Experience:
    • Bachelor’s Degree in Communication, Journalism, Broadcasting, Sport Management or related field
    • CPR/AED/First Aid Certification (current)
    • Previous experience in higher education
    • Experience in spiritual mentoring and development
  • Skill and Ability:
    • Experience with Microsoft Suite (Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
    • Experience with Marketing (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, TikTok, etc.)
    • Experience with Adobe Suite (Photoshop, Premier, Lightroom etc.)
    • Experience with additional website, photo and video editing platforms and applications
