Telecom Support Specialist 

Location City of Griffin  

Supports the telecommunications network by installing new connections to the fiber optic network and resolving customer issues. Essential duties include:

  • Receives, records and responds to customer requests for new service.
  • Receives, records and responds to customer reported issues with the fiber optic system or VOIP system.
  • Ensure customer satisfaction with telecommunications services.
  • Oversees and installs new equipment for customers
  • Troubleshoots and resolves hardware and network problems with the fiber optic network or VOIP system.
  • Prepares new customer networking and VOIP equipment for installation.
  • Assists customers with network and telephone-related problems.
  • Maintains inventory of PON equipment, ONT’s and locations through GIS and inventory systems
  • Performs administrative duties to maintain the City of Griffin fiber optic network
  • Assists in compiling support documentation and standard operating procedures.
Position Requirements
  • Knowledge of networking technologies and hardware.
  • Knowledge of outside plant fiber optic networks
  • Knowledge of job-related tools and test equipment: light meter, OTDR, and VFL.
  • Knowledge of technical documentation procedures.
  • Skill in the operation of computers and job-related software programs.
  • Skill in the identification and resolution of a wide variety of hardware, network, Wi-Fi and VOIP problems.
  • Skill in customer service and interaction.
  • Skill in oral and written communication.
  • Sufficient experience to understand the basic principles relevant to the essential duties of the position, generally associated with a minimum of five years of related experience.
  • Bachelor’s Degree, preferred.
  • CompTIA Net+ Certification or Certified Fiber Optic Technician or completed within one year of hire.
  • Ability to work occasionally afterhours and on weekends on a planned and emergent basis.

Hourly Rate of Pay Annual salary of $50,427.65 with competitive benefits package including generous pension plan.
