Description

The Water Safety Instructor is responsible for organizing and instructing all levels of American Red Cross format swim lessons.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Provide excellent customer service to customers, employees and business partners.
  • Maintain current knowledge, implement and enforce Association policies, procedures, rules and regulations.
  • Open and/or close pool facilities including removing and replacing pool covers. Ensure pool equipment is in proper working order.
  • Evaluate students and determine appropriate swim technique to instruct.
  • Instruct and demonstrate proper swim techniques to students in swimming pool.
  • Implement American Red Cross based lesson plans.
  • Complete required American Red Cross paperwork in a timely manner.
  • Prepare class materials and assists in set-up and take-down of swim lesson equipment and materials used daily.
  • Cooperate and communicate with co-workers effectively.
  • Ability to work some evening hours.
  • Attend and participate in mandatory in-service training and meetings.
  • Work well in a group/team environment.
  • Must be capable of swimming at least 500 yards in less than 10 minutes.

Position Requirements

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCES

Some high school education; or up to one month related experience or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

 

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

Requires current American Red Cross CPR/AED for Lifeguards and First Aid certifications.

Requires current American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor certification.

Current American Red Cross Lifeguard certification or equivalent is recommended.
