Description

The Aquatics Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the recreation swimming pools of Tahoe Donner Association.  Under general direction, from the Trout Creek Recreation Center Manager, the position plans, develops, organizes, analyzes, directs and evaluates a variety of aquatics programs.  This position assesses community needs for aquatics programs, facility requirements, and special events.  This position is the primary supervisor for the lifeguard and swim instructor staff and is responsible for the health and safety, training, motivation, and coordination of the aquatics staff. The Aquatics Supervisor will organize and contribute in instructing all levels of Red Cross swim lessons, including registration, correspondence, and instructor training.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Provide excellent customer service to members, guests, business partners and employees.  Ensures all staff meet or exceed the highest level of guest service in the performance of their duties.
  • Interview and hire staff in the HRIS system, submitting required paperwork to HR in a timely manner.  Guide employees in proper teaching methods.  Orient, train, direct, motivate, evaluate and discipline all assigned staff and oversee work schedules in accordance with Tahoe Donner Association policies.
  • Maintain current knowledge of Aquatics trends including technical and equipment trends by participation in other local, regional and/or national association meetings and seminars.
  • Participate in the development and administration of the operation’s budgets; direct the forecast of additional funds needed for staffing, equipment, materials and supplies; monitor and approve expenditures.
  • Ensures compliance with all safety regulations and ensure a clean and safe working environment with active participation in the health and safety program.  Implement and evaluate effectiveness of established safety procedures and policies designed to reduce work related accidents and general liability exposure for Tahoe Donner Association.  Develop and implement appropriate incident reporting techniques including emergency action plan with the Risk Department. 
  • Perform rescue operations in accordance with American Red Cross training standards.  Resuscitate rescued swimmers/bathers; administer first aid to the injured if necessary.
  • Coordinate with the Communications Department to develop appropriate marketing strategies and plans to enhance participation in aquatics programs; participate in the publishing and distribution of informational and promotional literature and web site.
  • Coordinate with Maintenance Department, ensures pool equipment is in proper working condition and in its place prior to opening facility.  Test pool chemicals in accordance with predetermined schedule.
 
Position Requirements

JOB QUALIFICATIONS

  • Intermediate Computer Skills
  • Possession of a valid American Red Cross (ARC) lifeguard training certificate
  • Possession of a valid ARC CPR for the Professional Rescuer (CPR Pro) certificate or American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) for the Health Care Profession (Provider C)

Post-Employment Certifications required:

  • ARC Trainer Certificates for Lifeguard Training
  • ARC CPR for the Professional Rescuer
  • A valid Oxygen Administration Certificate
  • A valid ARC Water Safety Instructor Certificate or County Instructor Training Program
  • Attain on of the following:
    • ARC Emergency Responder
    • First Responder OR Emergency Medical Technician (EMT)

These skills and abilities are typically acquired through the completion of an associate degree from a two year college or trade school with major course work in recreation or a related field, and two years’ experience coordinating or supervising aquatics program activities or aquatic special events or an equivalent combination of formal training, education and experience which demonstrates the ability to perform all of the duties of the position.
