Specific Job Detail

General Responsibilities

  • Develops and implements programs for the recruitment, interviewing, training, retention, and orientation for volunteers.
  • Coordinates volunteer assignments with patients and families based on program needs and volunteer's skills and interests.
  • Coordinates the training and assignments of volunteers to other departments: ex., Bereavement, clerical.
  • Oversees volunteer documentation of volunteer activity.
  • Develops and implements programs for volunteer continuing education, recognition and support, performance reviews and quality improvement.
  • Plans and conducts volunteer support meetings and volunteer recognition.
  • Maintains volunteer personnel files.
  • Prepares statistical reports to meet Federal and State agency rules and regulations for hospice volunteers.
  • Prepares reports for the Director of Clinical Services, as required.
  • Participates in regularly scheduled interdisciplinary team meetings for coordination of patient care, exchange of information and problem solving, and to receive staff support and in-service education.
  • Participates in hospice programs providing staff orientation, training and education.
  • Participates in and provides community programs on hospice and related issues.
  • Educates community about all aspects of volunteerism, particularly as it relates to hospice.
  • Participates in agency quality improvement programs.
  • Accepts other assignments deemed appropriate.
  • Provides direct supervision of volunteers; monitors and evaluates volunteers' performance; evaluates the effectiveness, quantity, and quality of services provided by the volunteers.
  • Effectively assesses and monitors volunteer program needs and develops plans to meet the needs.
  • Maintains appropriate reporting and record keeping system.
  • Maintains a current knowledge of volunteerism by participation in continuing education programs, workshops, and professional organizations.
  • Willingly accepts direction from Director of Clinical Services/PCC.
  • Evaluates effectiveness, quantity, and quality of services provided by the volunteers.
  • Ensures that volunteer hours are equal to 5% of the direct patient care staff hours.
  • Adheres to established personnel policies.

Description

ProMedica Senior Care, formerly HCR ManorCare, provides a range of services, including skilled nursing care, assisted living, post-acute medical and rehabilitation care, hospice care, home health care and rehabilitation therapy.

Responsible for the development and administration of the hospice volunteer program. Supervises all aspects of volunteer services. *Develops and implements programs for recruitment, interviewing, training, retention, and orientation of volunteers.

Educational Requirements High School Diploma or GED required. Bachelors Degree in behavioral sciences, human services, or related field preferred.

Qualifications

  • Basic office skills, with excellent communication skills both written and verbal.
  • Excellent organization skills. Demonstrated experience in supervision.
  • Ability to work well with an interdisciplinary team.
  • Demonstrated ability to execute a supportive approach to volunteer and patient/family needs.

 

Experience

  • 1 year experience working with families or groups and coordinating community volunteers preferred.

 

Travel

  • Approximately 50% on a daily basis.

 

Working Conditions

  • Exposure to disagreeable conditions including odors, infection, illness, and physical contact from disruptive patients.
