We are seeking an Elementary STEM Teacher for the 2023-2024 school year. A candidate who is impassioned, creative, nurturing, and relational. If you are gifted in fostering curiosity of students, engaging student participation, developing critical thinkers, and building student leadership in a safe and trusting environment, and fostering collaboration with teachers, we welcome you to consider applying for this position.

The Elementary Innovation and Creation Hub teacher applies creative and valid teaching techniques to achieve curriculum aims and make a positive impact on K-5 student learning. By integrating biblical principles into the engineering design process, the teacher creates a safe and project-based classroom environment. A candidate’s skill set and disposition will promote love and respect, equitable participation, critical thinking, and student leadership.

The HUB teacher will:

  • Demonstrate a basic understanding of the principles of STEAM and coordinate project-based learning activities within the Innovation and Creation Hub.
  • Be knowledgeable of 3-D printing, project-based learning, robotics, laser cutters, and coding.
  • Collaborate with elementary staff to integrate “Design Thinking” principles into all curriculum and develop cross-curricular units of study.
  • Establish a culture of “figuring it out” by pushing students to find their own way through tinkering and iterative processes.
  • Structure assignments and projects to encourage students to work together in a variety of formal and informal ways and provide ongoing support for them to do so.
  • Create a classroom space that incorporates tools, materials, and student work to represent the creative process of maker-space learning.
  • Be the protector of the HUB in terms of proper inventory, care for the furniture and equipment and teach the students to respect and honor the space.
  • Proactively communicate with students and parents on the projects created in the HUB.
  • Notify administration of deficiencies and failures in HUB equipment.
  • Maintain a positive approach to classroom discipline.

Requirements:

  • Understand the ministerial function of their role as described in the SCA Policies and Procedures Manual.
  • Attain an ACSI 2-year Temporary certificate within the first two years of employment.
