Description

 

The Fish Counter is the bargaining unit employee responsible for accurate identification and counting of various species of fish.  Fish Counters must be able to work a non-standard dayshift schedule - ten (10) days on four (4) days off – 0700 to 1530.   Fish Counters may be assigned to other areas when required and, if qualified as determined by supervision.

 ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Accurately identify of various species of fish.
  • Correctly record the number of each fish species passing through the Priest Rapids Project utilizing video monitor and computer keyboard.
  • Responsible to embrace change, actively search out and follow up on new and better ways to improve the work environment and improve service to District customers, and to promote dealing with change throughout the area of responsibility.
  •  Demonstrate positive support for and implementation of District decisions.
  • Actively promote adherence to and enforce District policies and procedures including safety rules.
  • Understand and promote team concept.
  • Encourage participation in decisions and improvements.

 

 
Position Requirements

 

 

EDUCATION:

  • High school diploma or GED from accredited institution.

 EXPERIENCE:

  • Valid Washington State Driver’s License.
  • Valid First Aid card including CPR training, equivalent to the State of Washington requirements for Industrial First Aid.

 OTHER KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Thorough knowledge and understanding of District Policies and Procedures for employees including personnel and safety policies.
  • Thorough knowledge of District’s Strategic Plan.
  • Ability to adjust to varying workload demand and flexible to changes in duties.
  • Demonstrated ability to follow and understand oral and written instructions.Ability to operate and train in proper operation of fish counting equipment, office equipment and cleaning equipment.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and be self-motivated.
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment.
  • Ability to use necessary District computers and programs.
  • Write legibly and be able to maintain records, files and fill out forms.

 PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Work irregular day shift schedule.
  • Work in close proximity to other Fish Counters.
  • Required to ascend and descend stairs.
  • Required to differentiate colors and fish species.
  • Use computers and write legibly.
