The Position

We have multiple positions open for the Family Outreach Advocate! The Family Outreach Advocate (FOA) will work collaboratively with parents, school personnel, and public and private agencies to guide families in overcoming obstacles to self-sufficiency. Through advocacy, case management, parent education, developmental screening, and linkage to community resources, the Family Advocate will identify risks, promote strengths, and equip parents with the skills and knowledge needed to overcome sources of stress and provide nurturing environments as well as progress towards economic stability. Services are provided in the home, school, and community setting.

Because working with those impacted by trauma can affect staff in various ways, FSA actively identifies and employs methods to support staff to embody a healthy and sustainable balance of care for both themselves and others.

 

Sample of Duties and Responsibilities

  • Exhibit a working knowledge of community resources and provide appropriate referral to support access to social, educational, and health services.
  • Serve as a liaison between the family and school to support student success in the school environment.
  • Support parents to increase their knowledge of child development and strengthen parenting skills.
  • Provide interpretation and or translation support when appropriate.
  • Conduct program outreach and represent FSA at collaborative meetings and community events.
  • Ensure client records and documentation is accurate, up-to-date, and confidential.
  • Utilize databases to monitor and reflect program contacts, activities, and outcomes.
  • Attend supervision meetings to report on cases, program requirements, and service delivery needs.
  • Participate in all required agency and/or contractually mandated trainings.
  • Attend meetings with community partners to coordinate services and promote continuity of care.
 
Position Requirements

Employment Standards:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Social Work, Psychology, Education, Health Service or related field is required.
  • A minimum of three years’ work experience in the school or community providing services to at-risk children and/or families.
  • An ability to relate warmly and professionally to students, parents, school personnel, and community organizations.
  • Professional attitude, teamwork, and ability to maintain confidentiality a must.
  • Will exhibit cultural competency.
  • Will speak, read, write, and understand English and Spanish fluently.
  • Excellent analytical, computer, written and verbal communication skills required.

Classification, Hours and Pay Rate:

  • Position is full-time (40 hours/week during the school year), non-exempt, with benefits. (Benefits include: medical, dental, vision, life insurance, and 403(b) retirement plan. Generous holiday and sick leave also offered.)
  • Pay rate is $22.00-$25.00/hour, depending on experience.
