Summary: Individuals in the job are responsible for assisting Tropical Financial Credit Union in the achievement of its purpose of guiding members successfully through the financial marketplace.  The Senior Staff Accountant assists the Finance/Accounting Manager and Accounting Supervisor with the most complex departmental operations, general ledger accounting, and financial analysis. Incumbent must be results-oriented, able to work independently, and capable of maintaining the smooth operation and continuity of critical finance/accounting functions and systems in the Supervisor’s or Manager’s absence.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Provide service that meets the Service Standards defined by Tropical Financial Credit Union and achieve annual goals that are established through the Performance Management Process.
  • General Ledger Accounting:  Responsible for all aspects of general ledger accounting, including; subsidiary ledger reconciliation, posting entries, maintaining accruals, and general ledger close.
  • Credit Cards: Responsible for all credit cards daily settlements and payments posting and reconciliation of all credit card GLs.  Prepare monthly credit card analysis.
  • Fixed Asset/Prepaid: Manage the setup and maintain fixed assets and prepaid on 3rd party software (Prologue). Prepare and post monthly depreciation and amortization.
  • Federal Reserve: Reconcile the Federal Reserve general ledger account daily.
  • Charge Offs:  Review and post credit card charge off and Repo transactions.
  • Participations: Post monthly entries for Consumer and Business Participation loans and reconcile related general ledger accounts.   
  • Regulatory Reports: Assist in preparation of regulatory reports, including 5300 Call Report, FR2900 Report, 945 tax return, and Tangible Property Tax returns.
  • Audits/Examinations:  Prepare reports and provide detailed information to auditors and examiners.
  • Support:  Provide financial, accounting, and technical support to all departments.
  • Problem Solving:  Anticipate and solve problems before they negatively impact credit union.
  • Process Improvements:  Assist other employees in developing process improvements that can dramatically improve efficiency and productivity.
  • Internal Controls:  Maintain accounting controls to prevent fraud or illegal activities.
  • Disaster Preparedness:  Maintain records, systems, and procedures to ensure critical accounting functions continue uninterrupted during an emergency.

Compliance:

  • BSA Compliance - every employee is required to uphold the credit union’s compliance with the Bank Secrecy Act and anti-money laundering policies and procedures.  Specific functions within TFCU will take into consideration the awareness of unusual or suspicious activity that is relevant to the department.
  • In addition to any other assigned training courses, online BSA and OFAC courses must be completed at least annually, as made available by the Training and/or Compliance Departments.
  • Maintains comprehensive knowledge of the Bank Secrecy Act, Customer Identification Program, USA Patriot Act, OFAC, Fair Lending and Credit Card Act. 
  • Comply with all TFCU policies and procedures to ensure compliance with such regulations.
  • Performs other duties as required with or without accommodation.

Education and/or Experience

  • Must have a Bachelor’s Degree in Finance or Accounting,
  • Five or more years of financial institution Finance/Accounting/Operations experience required.
  • Experience must include general ledger accounting, financial analysis and relevant processes.
  • Possess intermediate to advanced knowledge with MS Office Word, Excel (spreadsheet), database, accounting/finance software and other computer skills.
