SUMMARY

Under the direction of the Accounting Supervisor, the Sr. Accountant assists with daily and monthly financial accounting duties including account reconciliations and analysis, preparation of journal entries and related monthly close documents, and financial records maintenance. This individual may be asked to perform ad-hoc analyses, create spreadsheets and reports for management as necessary. The position requires solid knowledge of accounting principles and experience.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Complete account reconciliations and journal entries for multiple companies ensuring compliance with existing controls, policies and procedures and US GAAP
  2. Prepare complex monthly deliverables, such as roll forward schedules, financial reporting support schedules, and legal/regulatory reporting
  3. Responsible for recording fixed assets including acquisitions, disposals, transfers, depreciation and asset schedules
  4. Assist in the production of documents in response to requests from auditors and others as necessary
  5. Assist with annual operating and capital budgets
  6. Assist in the preparing and analyzing monthly financial statements
  7. Assist in the development of accounting related policies and procedures and standard operating procedures

  9. Perform other duties as assigned

 

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

This position has no staff supervisory responsibilities.

  • Strong attention to detail
  • Ability to adapt to new circumstances by understanding the changes and supporting management in communicating them in a positive manner
  • Ability to identify, define problems and draw valid solutions
  • Develop and maintain excellent relationships with other team members and department leaders
  • Ability to understand processes, issues, and possible solutions, and be able to communicate the solutions appropriately
  • Must be a team player in a professional environment
  • Foundation and strong knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP)
  • Must have intermediate level skills with Microsoft Office applications, specifically Excel
  • Ability to appropriately manage confidential information
  • Good written and verbal communication skills; able to actively participate in meetings and communicate with multiple levels of management
  • Ability to interpret instructions, gain knowledge and have initiative

 

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Required:  BA/BS degree in accounting or related degree
  • Required:  3+ years of accounting related experience
  • Required:  Great Plains or similar ERP system experience
  • Preferred:  Experience with Non-profit Organizations
  • Preferred:  Experience working with individuals with disabilities
