Academy Museum Getty Marrow Film Programs Intern – Summer 2023 (Gold Rising)

Description

The Academy Museum of Motion Pictures furthers the understanding, celebration, and preservation of cinema through inclusive and accessible exhibitions, screenings, programs, initiatives, and collections. Welcoming visitors from Los Angeles and around the world, the Museum works in active partnership with motion picture artists and specialists, scholars, staff, and diverse communities to contextualize and challenge dominant narratives around cinema, inspiring discourse, connection, joy, and discovery.

Reporting to the Interim Director, Film Programs, the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures is seeking an intern to work with the Film Programming team. You will assist in planning and implementing the Museum’s films programs, ongoing screenings and limited series dedicated to experimental and independent film, and films programmed to accompany planned exhibitions, including the upcoming temporary exhibition John Waters: Pope of Trash. Opening late 2023, the exhibition will be the first in-depth, comprehensive exploration of John Waters’ cinematic work —through screenplays, props, correspondence, photographs, posters, and moving-image material.

This is a limited-term internship beginning in June 2023 through August 2023. The hourly wage for this role is $17.

You Will:

  • Assist with research through Academy archival resources.
  • Conduct thematic, title, and filmmaker-specific research.
  • Assist with print sourcing, writing screening notes, and other public programs preparation.

Position Requirements

You Have:

  • A college degree in progress. Community college, trade school, and university undergraduate dates December 2021- June 2024 must be in good academic standing. • A minimum overall GPA of 2.8.
  • A strong interest in the motion picture industry.
  • An interest in gaining museum-related experience.
  • Possess excellent writing, research, and organization skills.
  • A keen attention to detail.
  • Enthusiasm to help elevate the profile of underrecognized films and artists.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to sit and stand for periods of more than 2 hours and lift up to 25 lbs.
