SUMMARY

This position provides daily supervision of the Maintenance Department and manages various facility programs in support of the daily operation and maintenance of the buildings and infrastructure of the zoo.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following

  • Plan, schedule, supervise and direct the work of personnel engaged in the day-to-day maintenance of buildings and building systems, water systems, sewer and drainage systems, plumbing, electrical, HVAC-R, Life Support Systems, and other infrastructure needs.
  • Coordinate Maintenance department activities and labor support with other departments, supervisors, and contractors.
  • Prioritize work, set work standards, and inspect work in progress and upon completion for completeness and accuracy.
  • Determine maintenance needs of facility equipment, arrange for storage of materials and equipment used in work, and implement maintenance management systems.
  • Develop and implement preventative maintenance plans.
  • Use databases and scheduled meetings to identify, communicate and plan workload, including scheduling, implementation, and securing equipment and inventory needed for routine and event-specific tasks.
  • Support the planning, implementation, and management of all maintenance programs relating to the interior, exterior, site conditions, and appearances of the facility.
  • Proactively inspect the facility, systems, rooms, common areas, etc. and report back any findings or issues to direct supervisor.
  • Manage Exhibits and Facilities databases as assigned, including but not limited to CMMS Systems (Accruent), work orders/work requests, and utility databases.
  • Help collect, analyze and present data, to include:
  • Assisting in providing information and reports necessary for the development of facility operations budgets for the zoo, including contributions towards multiyear planning efforts for major maintenance, facility improvement, and cost reduction initiatives.
  • Preparing reports of such statistical data as may be required to provide accurate and current assessment of facility management objectives
  • Perform routine departmental duties including but not limited to managing budgets, maintaining records, preparing reports, and ordering supplies, materials, and equipment.
  • Resolve scheduling, implementation, equipment, and inventory issues.
  • Foster a respectful, collaborative work environment with coworkers, other departments, and vendors.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university; and two years of experience or six or more years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Basic computer skills, including working knowledge of Microsoft Windows and Office tools (specifically Word, Excel and email Outlook), Adobe Suite, CMMS Systems, and customized and other databases.
  • Ability to balance and prioritize multiple tasks and requests and meet deadlines in a professional manner.
  • Employs best practices while continually seeking to improve effectiveness of the position and displaying an on-going commitment to learning and self-improvement.
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills with the ability to adapt communication based on audience and purpose with inclusivity.

  • Valid US driver’s license.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

This position may be required to regularly lift up to 35 pounds and occasionally life up to 50 pounds

WORK ENVIRONMENT

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to variable weather conditions. The employee is occasionally exposed to non-weather wet or humid conditions, and fumes or airborne particles and toxic or caustic chemicals; and is occasionally required to work near moving mechanical parts or work in high, precarious places. The noise level in the work environment varies from quiet to loud.

Pay: $93,000 - $99,000 annually plus benefits depending on experience 

Employment Requirements:

Applicants must be at least 18 years old and have a valid WA driver's license with a safe driving history. A criminal background check, driving record review, pre-employment physical, and pre-employment tuberculosis test will be required of the selected applicant. This role is not remote. Successful applicants must live and work in Washington State to perform this role.
