Description

George School, a Quaker boarding/day grades 9-12 college preparatory school located in Newtown, Bucks County, PA has an opening for a Director of Learning Center Services.

Working closely with Learning Center staff, associate head of school, school counselors, director of student health and wellness center, director of library services, department heads, deans, advisors, faculty, and the Admission Office, the Director of Learning Center Services is responsible for designing and implementing mission aligned support programs for George School students with learning differences and any student who needs help with time management, study skills, test-taking strategies, or specific subject areas. The role includes developing and updating the list of services George School offers students and initiating any policy changes with the faculty and school administration; working with the Admission Committee to assess applicants' social, emotional, and academic fit for George School; interpreting outside psycho-educational testing and developing formal accommodation plans for students with learning differences; clerking the Early Intervention team; arranging for psycho-educational testing and evaluation of students; coordinating our peer tutoring program; referring students to outside tutors and testing specialists; overseeing the evening study program; facilitating the accommodations process for College Board, ACT, and IB; and communicating with administrators, parents, teachers, and advisors in a timely manner so that students receive the support available for their success at George School.

 
Position Requirements

Candidates should have strong organizational and goal-setting skills; up-to-date knowledge of Mind, Brain, and Education research, and of tools and approaches to assist students with learning differences; a case manager and customer service orientation with excellent communication skills; experience interpreting educational testing, designing mission appropriate accommodations, and administering or coordinating school-based programs; willingness and flexibility to work additional hours when the needs of students, families, or the school demand; and an ability to articulate and tactfully handle sensitive conversations with students, parents, faculty, and staff. Candidates should also possess creativity, flexibility, energy, initiative, diplomacy, compassion, patience, and a lively sense of humor. A willingness to fulfill common boarding school duties; the ability to work with a diverse student population; commitment to the traditions and philosophy of a Quaker educational community; and a style consistent with the Quaker testimonies are also important. Highest priority will be given to candidates with three or more years of successful experience as a learning support coordinator, in addition to a master’s degree in special/exceptional education or other relevant field.
