Starting Pay: $23.7847 Hourly ($49,472)
After 1st Year: $25.5645 Hourly ($53,174)
After 2nd Year: $27.7406 Hourly ($57,701)
After 3rd Year: $28.5985 Hourly ($59,485)
After 4th Year: $29.4901 Hourly ($61,339)
After 5th Year: $30.4509 Hourly ($63,338)
After 6th Year: $31.4467 Hourly ($65,409)

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Three (3) years of experience as a machinist.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
Possession of a valid Michigan driver’s license.
Must be willing to work weekends, holidays and irregular hours.
Must be willing to wear a prescribed work uniform.

GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES: Performs skilled work including the maintenance and operation of steam and diesel locomotives, passenger cars, rolling stock and other related railroad equipment and machine shop equipment; works under the supervision of the Railroad Shop Supervisor; performs related duties as assigned.

STATEMENT OF TASKS:
Performs daily inspections during operating seasons to insure operation of locomotives, rolling stock, track and village steam operation;
Performs skilled work necessary to maintain steam and diesel locomotives, railroad passenger cars, railroad track and track maintenance equipment;
Performs detailed machine shop tasks, including welding and fabricating, necessary to maintain railroad equipment;
Maintains track including reguaging, surfacing, lining, rail equipment, signals, switches and necessary railroad safety devices;
Instructing, directing and helping other employees in the safe and timely operation of Huckleberry Railroad, Crossroads Village equipment and necessary repairs and maintenance of all related equipment;
Helps insure that all Parks Commission equipment, including boilers, meets operational safety standard and is in compliance with applicable governmental regulations;
Prepares and maintains necessary records and reports as required.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Knowledge of coal, wood and oil-fired steam locomotives and diesel locomotives;
Knowledge of stationary and portable boilers;
Knowledge of railroad track and structures;
Skill in gas and electrical welding and cutting operations;
Ability to inspect, maintain, repair and operate steam and diesel locomotives;
Ability to inspect, maintain and repair stationary and portable boilers;
Ability to operate and repair lathes, milling machines, shapers, drill presses and other machine shop equipment;
Ability to determine by inspection the safety of railroad operations;
Ability to maintain railroad right-of-ways.

Ability to attend work regularly and work under stressful conditions.
