The Academy Museum of Motion Pictures furthers the understanding, celebration, and preservation of cinema through inclusive and accessible exhibitions, screenings, programs, initiatives, and collections. Welcoming visitors from Los Angeles and around the world, the Museum works in active partnership with motion picture artists and specialists, scholars, staff, and diverse communities to contextualize and challenge dominant narratives around cinema, inspiring discourse, connection, joy, and discovery.

The Academy Museum of Motion Pictures is seeking an organized, enthusiastic intern to assist the Education and Public Engagement department in creating safe and inclusive learning opportunities for people of all abilities. The team works to build a robust calendar of workshops, public programs, gallery discussions, family activities and drop-in classes that make filmmaking skills and knowledge accessible to all.

This is a limited-term internship beginning in June 2023 through August 2023. The hourly wage for this role is $17.

 

You Will:

  • Support the design and creation of visitor-focused activities.
  • Assist in planning Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Accessibility initiatives within youth and family, and in-gallery programs.
  • Assist the Manager, In-Gallery Programs with designing an accommodative gallery learning experience around the Museum’s upcoming temporary exhibition John Waters: Pope of Trash and/or the Museum’s core and ongoing exhibition Stories of Cinema.
  • Have other duties that may include various programs or administrative/office support.
  • Better understand best practice and philosophical approaches to museum education as well as working collaboratively to plan and implement museum education activities for diverse audiences.
 
Position Requirements

You Have:

  • A college degree in progress. Community college, trade school, and university undergraduate students with graduation dates December 2021- June 2024 must be in good academic standing. Students with passion, interest, and creativity around the museum visitor experience and students with customer service experience, or education or informal teaching (camps, community service, etc.) are encouraged to apply.
  • A minimum overall GPA of 2.8.
  • A strong interest in the motion picture industry.

 

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to sit and stand for periods of more than 2 hours and lift up to 25 lbs.

 

Other Requirements:

  • Full vaccination against COVID-19 is required, including any booster vaccinations as applicable.

 

 

This internship is part of the Getty Marrow Undergraduate Internship Program, which encourages greater diversity in the professions related to museums and the visual arts. The Getty Marrow Undergraduate Internship program in Los Angeles supports substantive, full-time summer work opportunities for college undergraduates from backgrounds that have traditionally been underrepresented in the arts.
