Under the supervision of the Marketing & Communications Manager, the intern will work on projects in marketing strategy and execution, communications/PR, digital marketing and social media.

Position Requirements

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE & TRAINING

  • Students who are currently enrolled in a Bachelor’s degree program studying Marketing, Journalism/Communications or English, or Marketing, an interest in parks and recreation is a plus.
  • Valid driver’s license and use of a car during working hours when needed.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES

  • Strong written, organizational and verbal skills.
  • Strong written communication and editing skills with an understanding of grammar and AP Style guidelines.
  • Capable of writing in various styles to address different objectives and audiences.
  • Exceptional project management skills: ability to effectively handle multiple projects in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office Suite, with advanced knowledge of Word required and PowerPoint skills, preferred.
  • Ability to work independently and within a team environment.

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Source, develop, curate and adapt content for a variety of channels (internal, external and social)
  • Assist with specific writing assignments (press releases, website content, feature writing, etc.)
  • Create multimedia content for the Bolingbrook Park District website and social media channels.
  • Write feature articles and event notices to be used in district publications and/or for release through select media channels.
  • Develop a summer campaign targeting teen engagement on social media channels.
  • Play a role in the implementation of the Summer Parks Challenge.
  • Review web and social media analytics to help develop best practices for content creation and sharing.
  • Monitor the web/social media for Bolingbrook Park District-related stories.
  • Contribute to other team projects as needed such as digital/web enhancements and customer collateral.
  • Work closely with our Marketing/Communications team to learn more about best practices and strategies for communications.
  • Participate in the set-up and preparation of Community Relations/District organized events or activities.
  • Participate in development of a wide range of communications campaigns across multiple vehicles, including design and content.
  • Participate in other activities as required in support of the Communications/Community Relations Department or to gain experience in a desired area of Communications and Public Relations.

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Seeing: to obtain information from written materials; to drive a vehicle; to review photographs, for computer work

Talking/hearing: to communicate with staff, public, press and vendors

Walking: when visiting our facilities, while attending events and escorting the mascot

Sitting: to drive a vehicle, for computer work, to work on assignments

Pushing/Pulling: to open doors and drawers and to transport equipment

Crouching/Stooping/Reaching: to retrieve files and materials in higher and lower levels of storage

Climbing: to ascend stairs or uneven terrain when outdoors, use low level stools to reach display cases

 

COGNITIVE CONSIDERATIONS

Must have good safety awareness and judgement. Must have the ability to read, write, and organize materials. Must have excellent command of the English language. Ability to master computer programs. Ability to plan, direct, and supervise staff. Must be able to work and relate to other people in a professional manner. Requires attending outdoor events. This is an on-site office position.

12 hours per week for a 12-week period beginning June of 2023
