Job Summary

The Premium Collection Supervisor is responsible for the overall success of premium collections and the success of the Premium Collections staff. This includes working with vendors and external service providers, mentoring the Premium Collection staff, providing customer service and ensuring staff members provide customer service to internal customers, agents and policy holders surrounding premium accounting issues.

 

Essential Functions

  • This position is responsible for processing routine premium payments applied to new policies or renewals.
  • Provides customer service and communicates with agents and policy holders by telephone, emails, and/or written correspondence to answer questions and resolve any outstanding billing issues.
  • Research and reslove issues arising from improper processing of payment and written inquiries on billing problems.
  • Works with external vendors to resolve service issues, process transaction, and obtain necessary information for fees and tax reporting.
  • Provides training and technical guidance to team members and communicates procedural changes and new product information.
  • Assists team members to come up with the best resolution to situations.
  • Monitors team's clearing accounts, reviewing individual performance and providing regular feedback that includes writing and conducting annual performace reviews, disciplinary actions, determines appropriate disciplinary actions and interviews candidates and makes decisions regarding hiring and firing of team members as necessary.
  • Researches and verifies compliance with IRS guidelines regulating life insurance, IRAs and Annuities (Domestic).
  • Updates and maintains company SOX controls for premium collection team.
  • Prepares and monitors annual budget for premium collections department.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Basic knowledge of accounting fndamentals.
  • Strong cutomer service skills and ability to build constructive working relationships to maintain positive relationships inside and outside the company.
  • Must be able to effectively prioritize workflow.
  • Ability to mentor, motivate and lead team members in a positive way to foster trust and engagement.
  • Ability to interpret and apply statutory regulation and tax codes to life insurance and/or annuity products (Domestic).
  • Relies on previous experience and judgement to make sound decisions.
  • Ability to maintain effective performance under pressure.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills to correspond effectively with others.
  • Intermediate level user with Microsoft Word and Excel; must be able to learn and adapt to new applications.
  • Thorough understanding of company products and exhibits proficiency through practical application of company products within 2 years.

 

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Mathematics, Business or equivelant experience.
  • 1-3 years experience in premium accounting.
  • 4+ years of experience in a customer service environment.
  • 2-3 years of supervisory experience preferred.
