Valley Community Services Board serves as the single point of entry into publicly funded mental health, developmental, and substance use disorder services for these localities.

Description

Valley Community Services Board is looking for a license-eligible clinician to join our team at Middle River Regional Jail (MRRJ). As a clinical resident or licensed clinician, the MRRJ Outpaitent Service Clinician serves incarcerated individuals determined to be living with serious mental illness.

Benefits:

  • Health Insurance as low as $20.00/month for individuals. Family and dependent plans are also available
  • $1,500.00 sign-on bonus included in full with the first paycheck
  • Residents receive free clinical supervision and a 10% increase upon receiving a license.
  • Nine paid holidays.
  • Accrue up to 20 days PTO per year from year one. PTO is immediately available upon accrual.
  • Participation in the Virginia Retirement System, including paid short-term disability insurance.
  • Professional development assistance provided at no cost.

Summary of Essential Functions:

  • Provide individual, group, and case management to clients residing in jail.
  • Complete assessments, develop treatment plans and provide individual/group therapy to incarcerated individuals living with serious mental illnesses.
  • Provide crisis intervention, prescreening for inpatient substance abuse detoxification, and discharge planning.
  • Provide crisis stabilization services.
  • Complies with client rights and confidentiality policies, licensure, and Medicaid regulations.
 
Position Requirements

Minimum Qualifications

  • Master's degree with major course work in human services or related field (e.g., counseling, social work, etc.) from an accredited university program.
  • Eligible to receive licensure as a mental health with the Virginia Department of Health Professions.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience in the mental health field strongly preferred.
  • Excellent written and oral communication through both written and spoken mediums.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Knowledge:

  • Principles and practices of individual, family, and group psychotherapy.
  • Mental health and substance use services for adults and their families.
  • Crisis intervention techniques.
  • Etiology and treatment of mental health, substance use disorder, and co-occurring disorders.
  • Psychotropic medications.

Skills:

  • Case management, treatment planning, and documentation.
  • Sound judgement.
  • Psychotherapeutic intervention with adults, couples, and groups.
  • Crisis intervention and pre-screening.

Abilities:

  • Develop and maintain productive, professional relationships with clients, client families, and others.
  • Work with individuals from a variety of socioeconomic and educational backgrounds who are experiencing mental health or substance use related challenges.

Salary Information Starting at $45,000 annually, plus benefits.
