Region 4 Jail Team Mental Health Care Coordinator (PRN) (Temporary) 

Description

Richmond Behavioral Health is seeking a PRN Jail Team Mental Health Care Coordinator to join our Region 4 Jail Team. The slected candidate will perform intermediate professional work assessing client needs, developing, implementing and monitoring service delivery, providing court-ordered competency restoration services, coordinating and monitoring services with other agencies, counseling and assisting clients, maintaining records and files, preparing reports, and related work as apparent or assigned. Work is performed under the limited supervision of the assigned supervisor.

Essential Functions
Provide consumer monitoring and restoration services to individuals who are incarcerated at local/regional jails.
Conduct an initial assessment of each individual referred for services and monitor level of functioning.
Provide consumer monitoring services for all individuals on assigned caseload at least once per month.
Provide restoration services for all court-ordered defendants at least once per week, unless discussed with supervisor.
Make referrals and linkages to appropriate agencies for services; coordinate client services and treatment with multiple service providers, agencies, and client’s support system.
Monitor medication compliance; communicate with jail mental health staff to coordinate care; and maintain medical records in accordance with standards.
Manage and document client contacts; enter and update information in the Jail Team’s database.
Prepare a variety of reports; document all services in the EHR within the established time frame set forth by policy and standards.
Evaluate the quality of services provided and changes in client's condition and counsels clients as necessary; evaluate client's environment for safety, security, negative factors and productivity.
Provide motivational counseling to clients to facilitate/improve engagement in services that support recovery.
Provide crisis intervention and prevention services to individuals, as necessary and appropriate, and notify jail mental health staff of any emergent mental health crises.
Assist with the orientation and training of newly hired staff.
Serve as liaison to public agencies and provide information regarding Authority programs and services.
Develop and maintain administrative and clinical files.
Participate in clinical, administrative, and supervisory meetings; collaborate with other staff members concerning cases; attend professional conferences and trainings as required; attend court hearings and testify in court when required.
Assist in program development and resource tools.

 
Position Requirements

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
General knowledge of the principles and practices of providing care to individuals with emotional and behavioral disorders, severe mental illness, intellectual/developmental disabilities, and/or substance use disorders; general knowledge of community and agency resources and human services network; general knowledge of community-based behavioral health principles and psychotherapeutic treatment techniques; general knowledge of the theories and techniques of counseling and crisis intervention; thorough knowledge of intake procedures, interviewing, and supportive counseling techniques; ability to evaluate and screen clients; ability to prepare adequate records and to report findings and data clearly, concisely, and effectively; ability to solve problems within scope of responsibility; ability to communicate complex ideas effectively, orally and in writing; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with clients, supervisors, consultants, community partners, law enforcement, agencies, and the general public.

Education and Experience
Bachelor’s degree with coursework in social work, counseling, psychology, health services, or related field and moderate experience working with individuals with behavioral health disorders and/or intellectual and developmental disabilities in a behavioral health and/or correctional setting, or equivalent combination of education and experience. Master’s degree preferred.

Special Requirements
Valid driver's license in the Commonwealth of Virginia.
CPI certification.
CPR certification.
QMHP, QIDP, CSAC, CADC or certification/license eligible.

Starting Salary Range Negotiable depending on qualifications
