Description

Truck and Trailer Service Writer/Advisor

Qualifications:

  • A minimum of two years related experience in a truck dealership or heavy duty truck repair shop in a similar capacity.
  • Extensive knowledge of heavy-duty trucks, trailers, and related parts
  • Knowledge and prior experience working with robust maintenance software
  • Experience with Maintenance Connection software a plus
  • Excellent communication skills required

Job Duties:

  • Works with fleet manager, dispatcher and drivers regarding necessary service for routine service and maintenance
  • Confers with shop manager and fleet manager about inspection results, recommend corrective procedures, and prepare work order for needed repairs
  • Prepares a repair work order showing time, cost, and labor estimates for service
  • Writes a brief description of the driver's concern on the repair order to help the technician locate the problem
  • Schedules service appointments with fleet manager and dispatcher.
  • Maintains vehicle and trailer data in the maintenance computer system
  • Refers to service history, may visually inspect vehicle or equipment along with shop manager, and recommend additional needed service
  • Provides a complete and accurate written work orders for scheduled maintenance, breakdowns, emergency repair work, etc.
  • Notifies shop manager of incoming work
  • Works with parts department to ensure the correct parts for the right truck or trailer are ordered and will be available for scheduled services. Ensures an adequate inventory is in stock for most non-routine work (repairs, breakdowns, etc)
  • Checks on progress of repair throughout the day. Contacts fleet manager and dispatcher regarding any changes in the estimate or promised time, explains cost and time requirements in detail when necessary, and gets proper authorization before any additional repairs are performed
  • Reviews repair orders to ensure that work is completed, and additional work and authorization is noted. Closes repair order as appropriate
  • Develops and maintains an effective service checklist to ensure all equipment is properly and completely serviced while in the shop. Makes sure this checklist is completed by the mechanic and submitted for review and final approval.
  • Handles inquiries regarding upcoming services and work in process
  • Assists with warranty claims
  • Attends company training as required
  • Maintains a professional appearance
  • Keeps work area clean
  • Other duties as assigned, including assisting the shop manager in other capacities.
