Looking to make a difference in the lives of preschoolers? Our Headstart program is seeking experienced Early Childhood / Childcare Worker (ECWs) to cover staff absences or situations where additional staffing is required. Frequent shifts available.

The Annavale Headstart Nursery School is a licensed childcare operated by the Carlington Community Health Centre.

Reporting to the Supervisor of the centre, the ECW’s role is to support the physical and emotional needs of the group and individual children at the Annavale Headstart Nursery School, while developing and encouraging genuine, positive, and secure relationships. As part of a team, the ECW will deliver activities that align with provincial guidelines and best practices for Early Years programming as described in the How Does Learning Happen? Framework, conforms to the Childcare and Early Years Act 2014, and meet all health and safety standards, while maintaining confidentiality at all times.

As a condition of employment, the successful candidate is required to provide proof of full vaccination against COVID-19

 
Position Requirements

Professional Experience

  • Experience working in Early Childhood / Licensed Childcare settings with children ages zero to six years.
  • Strong knowledge of child development and behaviour management, consistent with the foundations of Early Childhood Education.
  • Familiarity with the How Does Learning Happen? Framework and Childcare and Early Years Act.
  • Understanding of attachment and trauma-informed care
  • Fluency in English is essential; Other languages an asset.
  • ECA/ECE, Child and Youth Studies or similar child-focused degree/diploma considered an asset.

Key Competencies

  • Commitment to the healthy development of children and support of vulnerable families.
  • Cross-cultural awareness and experience working with culturally diverse populations essential.
  • Understanding of issues relevant to working with low-income (multi-risks) parents/caregivers.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and establish appropriate relationships with children, families and caregivers.
  • Ability to supervise children and/or engage with children and their families in a manner consistent with the goals and philosophy of the program and the community health centre.
  • Experience in a non-profit, community-based organization.
  • Familiarity with the use of computers.
 
Salary Range $18.09/hr - $21.61/hr
