Description

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

This position The Language Teacher will be responsible for creating and implementing lesson plans for the Munsee and/or Mohican Languages in person and online. When necessary this position is responsible to be available for evening and/or weekend hours, irregular shifts and extended hours; as dictated by the education plans, in order to reach as many students as possible. This position will be responsible for assisting the Language Manager in the growth of the Munsee and Mohican languages in the Stockbridge-Munsee Community. This position will be responsible for the continual growth of their personal Munsee and/or Mohican language knowledge; working with the Language Manager and designated internal & external resources.

DUTIES:

  1. Will create and implement a hybrid format of lesson plans for designated language classes that incorporated virtual, online and in-person formats of teaching.
  2. Will work one-on-one with designated training consultants; both internally and externally, to promote and sustain designated language instruction.
  3. Will be responsible to execute language instruction curriculum in multiple media formats such as, online, virtual, and traditional in-class.
  4. Will create and record data in order to track the progress of the language program.
  5. Will participate in language promotional activities, outside the classroom settings.
  6. Will provide monthly status reports of language classes to supervisor.
  7. Will work with appropriate computer software to accomplish relative objectives.
  8. Will maintain strict department security, confidentiality, and quality to meet professional standards of the department.
  9. Must demonstrate personal continued advancement of knowledge and understanding of the designated language.
  10. In addition to designated language must be willing to learn and help in the teaching of Munsee or Mohican language, when called upon.
  11. Must be able to travel, sometime for extended periods of time, to conduct language classes or continue self-development of language & teaching skills.
  12. Must maintain an acceptable departmental attendance record.
  13. Must be reliable and prompt when reporting to work.
  14. Required to attend job related, in-service, meetings, and training to maintain professional and technical knowledge.
  15. Must adhere to tribal law and other applicable laws as well as tribal personnel policies and procedures.
  16. May be required to satisfactorily complete an exam or other testing requirement(s) to determine skill proficiency.
  17. The above duties and responsibilities are not an all-inclusive list but rather a general representation of the duties and responsibilities associated with this position. The duties and responsibilities will be subject to change based on organizational needs and/or deemed necessary by the supervisor.
 
Position Requirements

STANDARD QUALIFICATIONS:

All employees of Stockbridge Munsee Community must meet the following qualification:

1. Must submit to and pass a pre-employment drug and health screening.

2. Must be at least 18 years of age, unless otherwise stated on job description

3. Must maintain an acceptable departmental attendance record

4. Must be able to work weekends, nights and holidays

5. Must obtain and maintain Elder/Youth License as stated on job description.

 

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Associate Degree Preferred, must have a high school diploma/GED.
  2. Knowledge of the Munsee language is preferred.
  3. Previous teaching experience preferred.
  4. Ability to plan and organize project goals is required, need to have excellent organizational skills.
  5. Must have previous experience creating educational curriculum.
  6. Successful experience with organizing public discussion.
  7. Excellent communication skills are required. Must be able to communicate effectively both orally and in writing in diverse and challenging situations.
  8. Knowledge or familiar with the history and culture of Indigenous communities; Mohican and Munsee knowledge preferred.
  9. Must be familiar with Microsoft software and must have keyboarding skills.
  10. Ability and experience in establishing and maintaining a good working relationship with individuals of varying ages, social, and cultural backgrounds.
  11. Ability to exercise independent judgment and work independently.
  12. Must be able to travel potential for several weeks consecutively.
  13. Must prove satisfactory working record in past or current employment.
  14. Must obtain and maintain coverage under the employer’s Employee Dishonesty policy.
  15. Must submit and pass a background security check to meet the Elder/Youth License Requirement as it pertains to the position and the location of the department prior to and during the course of employment with the Stockbridge-Munsee Community.
  16. Must be willing to attend all applicable training.
  17. Must pass pre-employment drug and health screening. Must adhere to the Tribe’s Drug and Alcohol-Free Workplace Policy during the course of employment.
  18. Must be eligible for coverage under the employer’s liability insurance.
  19. Must have demonstrated ability to maintain satisfactory working record in any prior or current employment.
  20. Must be able to meet physical requirements of position.
  21. Must have a valid driver’s license, reliable transportation, and insurance are required. Must obtain a Wisconsin driver’s license within 30 days of employment if applicant has an out-of-state driver’s license. Must meet and maintain the eligibility to operate a personal or tribal vehicle under the driver acceptability guidelines as established by Mohican Nation Insurance.
  22. Must abide by departmental and organizational safety, testing, and uniform guidelines.

 

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORK ENVIRONMENT

 

1. This position requires a lot of sitting with occasionally stoop, kneel, crouch, and lift and/or move up to twenty-five (25) pounds.

2. Evening and/or weekend is required. Extended hours and irregular shifts may be required.

3. Work environment requires excellent personal hygiene due to working in close proximity to others and in an enclosed area.

4. A Tuberculosis (TB) Screening and/or TB Skin Test may be required.
