Job Summary:

The Academy Oral History Projects Department is seeking an organized, enthusiastic intern to assist and support the Oral History Projects department for a summer internship supporting the original productions of the Academy's Visual History Program, a born-digital recording initiative of long-form video interviews with influential filmmakers, craftspeople and technologists.

This collection is currently made up of more than 200 interviews, and over 800 content hours. Supervised by the Sr. Specialist of Production and Operations, the Curatorial/ Production Support Intern will be involved with a wide range of activities such as thematic selection of materials and research of interview participants. This role will also provide support to new visual history productions through tasks such as: organization of interview-related materials like transcripts, photos, and notes; production planning, logistics, and coordination; interview note-taking; and correspondence with interviewees and their teams.

 

This is a limited term internship position beginning in June 2023 through August 2023. The hourly wage for this role is $16.25.

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assist Production Specialist and Director of OHP in oral history production planning and logistics
  • Assist in day-of shoot logistics, coordination (runner) and notetaking
  • Interviewee research and production of reference materials for OHP staff
  • Using VH Program materials, locate relevant interview segments for inclusion in Museum exhibits, programming, and social media
  • Assist department staff with tasks related to transcription, file naming, and organization
  • Writing interview summaries, abstracts and bios, and collection profiles
  • General office assistance.
 
Position Requirements

Qualifications and Requirements:

  • University undergraduate or graduate studies from the class of 2022 and 2023 in good academic standing.
  • A minimum of 2.8 GPA
  • Knowledge of and interest in film history, domestic and/ or international
  • Data entry and file management
  • Advanced verbal and written communication skills
  • Interest in and/or experience with cataloging/ data entry
  • Familiarity with spreadsheets/ Airtable
  • Ability to learn new software
  • Problem solving, multitasking, and project management skills.
