With such a variety of activities available, it should not come as a surprise that Kaukauna is also known as 'The Friendly City.'   Position Library Assistant- Materials   Description Library Assistant: Hispanic Outreach Coordinator Department: Library Reports To: Library Director/Assistant Director Hours: Part-Time; Monday 8am-Noon, Tuesday 4pm-8pm, Wednesday 8am-noon, Thursday Noon-4pm, Friday 9am-1pm. Saturday (once every three weeks from September to May). Pay: $17.36/hour Position Summary Under the supervision of the Library Director and/or Assistant Director, the Library Assistant: Hispanic Outreach Coordinator performs outreach to our local Hispanic community and shares their culture with the community. They also serve as a Library Assistant performing essential service desk functions such as checking in and out of materials, filling holds list, returning materials to the shelves, issuing new library cards, and assisting patrons with reference, directional and/or technological questions. Major Position Duties Provide tours, assistance in setting up library accounts, assistance with age-appropriate book selection and library orientation to Hispanic families. Translate library materials into Spanish. Market library materials, programs and services to Hispanic community members. Plan, organize and conduct innovative bilingual programs. Attend outreach events on behalf of the library. Assist at service desk helping patrons, answering reference questions, issuing new library cards, filling and retrieving holds, and providing technical support for patrons at computer stations for Hispanic patrons and the general public. Checking out and checking in library materials. Assists patrons with technology questions including computer or eBook related questions. Shelves materials. Reads and maintains order of the section of shelves assigned. Maintains patrons adhere to library policies. Call patrons to alert them of holds. Assist patrons in renewing and issuing new library cards. Assist patrons with library card issues and concerns. Periodic emptying of book drop. Receive and record money. Use cash register. Assist patrons with copy machine, faxing, laminating and printing. Help patrons find and retrieve materials. Work with a diverse population. Uphold confidentiality and privacy of patrons. Adhere to the Library Bill of Rights. Perform detailed services related to specific areas of service as well as other duties as assigned by supervisors. Set up and take down of programs. Create partnerships with local organizations. Explore creative and innovative approaches to programming. Operate programs within budget.   Position Requirements Required Qualifications Educational Qualifications:High school diploma, GRE, or suitable educational background experience and skills. Ability to work Monday 8am-Noon, Tuesday 4pm-8pm, Wednesday 8am-noon, Thursday Noon-4pm, Friday 9am-1pm. Saturday (once every three weeks from September to May). Ability to speak, read, and write effectively in English and Spanish. General Qualifications Experience planning and implementing educational and entertainment programs for people of all ages. Knowledge of the Integrated Library System software CARLX. A friendly image projecting competence and courtesy. Excellent customer service skills. Knowledge of cash handling and cash register procedures. Basic computer skills, including, but not limited to, email, blogging, use of Microsoft Word software, etc. Ability to learn and use new technology. Willingness to learn new skills and take on additional tasks. Ability to get along with a diverse population. Ability to correct behavior of patrons in a polite but professional manner. Ability to multi-task and remain focused in a fast paced environment. Ability to follow and perform detailed directions and tasks. Ability to prioritize work responsibilities and duties. Ability to communicate clearly in written and spoken forms. A basic working knowledge of English spelling, grammar, arithmetic, and reading. Willingness to attend and participate in continuing education opportunities.
