Job Summary:

The Supervising Librarian is responsible for the organization, supervision, and management of a variety of department projects and tasks. In this leading role, the SL will perform duties related to circulation, acquisition, and cataloging. The position collaborates with various library and Academy stakeholders as appropriate and is responsible for implementing quality control in our library catalogs and systems as directed by the Department Head. This position supervises professional and assistant librarian positions, interns and serves on a variety of library committees and policy groups. This position works in the Technical Services Department (TSD) of the Margaret Herrick Library and reports to the Associate Director, Technical Services.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Liaison to other library and Academy departments as appropriate.
  • Organizes and leads special project teams and manages special projects undertaken by the TSD as assigned by the Department Head and the Library Director.
  • Manages staff responsible for circulation and cataloging, and provides support to staff across library departments.       
  • Explores and implements best practices to improve current and future access to library materials.
  • Employs analytical skills to resolve complex and diverse collection issues related to the mission of the department.
  • Leads or participates in various department, library committees and work groups that establish library policies.
  • Provides service in other library and Academy activities as needed.
 
Position Requirements

Qualifications and Requirements:

  • Master’s degree in Library and Information Science or Archival Studies from an accredited program.
  • Minimum 3-10 years’ work experience in a film studies library.
  • Minimum 3 years’ cataloging work experience.
  • Expert film history/industry knowledge.
  • Knowledge of MARC and non-MARC metadata standards and practices, subject analysis, current cataloging practices, specifically motion picture subject indexing and analysis.
  • Expert knowledge of the rules and practices in complex library systems and archives.
  • Advanced experience with library databases.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds.
  • Demonstrated ability to interact professionally, effectively, and collaboratively with colleagues.
  • Ability to exercise good judgment and discretion.
  • Excellent oral, written and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ability to effectively prioritize and balance multiple projects simultaneously.

The expected starting salary for this role is $31.25. The actual base pay offered will be determined on factors such as experience, skills, training, location, certifications, education, and other factors permitted by law. Decisions will be made on a case-by-case basis.
