PURPOSE:

Responsible for managing the accounting activities, functions and systems as they relates to all areas of general accounting.  This role will be a key stakeholder in the monthly financial close. 

 

Principal Duties (The following is intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed. It is not an exhaustive list of all expectations.):

  • Manage or assist in the monthly financial close.  This will include the management of staff and financial processes in diverse locations
  • Manage relationship and ensure quality control for the portion of general accounting that has been outsourced (including GBS)
  • Establish and maintain controls to ensure accuracy and consistency in procedures
  • Utilize understanding of technology and business processes to identify and manage job duties
  • Prepare and review monthly financial statements
  • Prepare and/or review journal entries and account reconciliations
  • Assist with the annual external audits
  • Work with operational personnel to ensure that all relevant activity is recorded accurately and timely
  • Communicate relevant issues and solutions to upper management for decisions and support
  • Research accounting principles including both US GAAP and IFRS
  • Act as liaison with other internal departments and upper management

Essential Functions:

Must be able to pass any federal/state/local government, airport, or company-required background checks, clearances, and/or drug and alcohol tests.

 

Knowledge and Skills (The following minimum requirements are normal guidelines and should not constrain the advancement of otherwise qualified personnel):

This is a management position. Exceptional interpersonal, analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills required. Bachelor’s degree or equivalent required. Generally prefer 2-4 years of related supervisory or management experience.

 
Position Requirements

Working Environment:

  • Assignment Complexity - Work on problems of diverse scope where analysis of situation or data requires evaluation of identifiable factors. Exercise judgment within generally defined practices and policies in selecting methods and techniques for obtaining solutions. Act as advisor to subordinate(s) to meet schedules and/or resolve technical problems. Develop and administer budgets, schedules, and performance requirements.
  • Accountability – Manage through subordinate supervisors or professionals the coordination of the activities for functional area with responsibility for results in terms of costs, methods, and employees.
  • Impact of Decisions – Erroneous decisions or failure to achieve goals results in additional costs and personnel, and serious delays in overall schedules.
  • Working Relationships – Frequently interact with subordinates, customers, and/or functional peer managers. May interact with senior management. Interactions normally involve matters between functional areas, other company divisions or units, or customers.
  • Scope – Receive assignments in the form of objectives and establishes goals to meet objectives. Provide guidance to subordinates to achieve goals in accordance with established policies. Work is reviewed and measured based on meeting objectives and schedules. Establishes and recommends changes to policies which effect subordinate organization(s).

 

WORKING CONDITIONS: 

  • Remain in a stationary position for extended periods of time.
  • Frequently operate a computer for extended periods of time and regularly operate other office productivity machines.
  • Occasionally ascend/descend stairs and move up to 20 pounds of office objects.
  • Frequently communicate with peers, supervisors, third parties, and other employees to exchange accurate information and answer questions.
  • Occasionally attend meetings in buildings outside corporate office and at off-site locations with various internal conditions, and requiring travel in various external conditions.
