Share Email Opening Title Cashier  Category Retail   Description SUMMARY Under the direction of the Lead Cashier, the Cashier will be responsible for all daily cash transactions, documentation and administration of customer coupons and will exhibit and provide a welcome and warm response to the thrift store customers in the store and over the telephone. Reinforce and positively engage in Opportunity Village’s organizational culture supporting choice and creativity of clients and of staff.  ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Operate cash register to complete sales transactions. Bag items and redeems promotional coupons. Record register totals and balances cash drawer at the beginning and end of each shift. Review price sheets taking note of price changes and sale items. Monitor customer access to and cleanliness of register area and fitting rooms. Return fitting room articles to proper racks paying attention to correct size and color sequence. Answer telephone in an efficient and friendly manner, uses PA system as required. Assist with pricing and stocking of items. Assist those with walk-in donations and customer carry outs. Help to ensure store is clean, organized and free of safety hazards. Perform other duties as assigned.   SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES This position has no supervisory responsibilities.       Position Requirements SKILLS REQUIRED Ability to communicate effectively with individuals with disabilities, co-workers, supervisors and military personnel. Must encompass a professional demeanor. Ability to define problems and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret instructions, gain knowledge and have initiative. Ability to count/exchange money to complete all sales transactions. Knowledge of basic math. Ability to read, write and understand English.   EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE Required: High School Diploma or equivalent and one (1) year verifiable work experience in related field (i.e. retail cashier).   PHYSICAL ABILITIES The physical demands described below are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform essential functions of the job.  Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential duties and functions of the position.
