Job Summary
The Senior Biomedical Technician is required to supervise the day to day activities of a team of Biomedical Technicians, responsible for responding to service calls. Work involves evaluating, diagnosing, performing repairs and planned maintenance on bio-medical equipment. The Senior Biomedical Technician is also required to direct, coordinate and evaluate the work of lower level technicians. The Authority reserves the right to assign the officer to any Facility under its management.
The core functions include but not limited to the following:
- Troubleshoots, services and repairs complex digital and analog circuitry to maintain proper medical equipment operation and ensure optimum operation of equipment.
- Provides guidance and training to junior Biomedical Technicians in the use, safety, inspection, calibration, preventative maintenance and inventory of all equipment.
- Interprets engineering and vendor information, diagrams and graphic illustrations to perform effective repair and maintenance on complex bio-medical equipment.
- Performs planned preventative maintenance on a wide variety of sophisticated electronic equipment by regular inspection of records and spot checks of devices and systems; provides for the appropriate follow-up of warranty and service agreements.
- Performs advanced repairs, calibration, safety testing, installation and commissioning of bio-medical equipment.
- Completes all documentation and updates records/databases upon completion of task.
- Manages the maintenance of parts inventory.
- Supervises the proper care of spares, tools and test equipment and ensures calibration.
- Assists departments in capital equipment planning, in identifying and recommending replacement of equipment that is obsolete, had extensive repair history or has identified safety issues.
- Liaises with the Procurement Unit and other departments to ensure that all incoming clinical equipment is inspected in line with Departmental policy.
- Enhances and maintains technical knowledge of current standards, codes and procedures regarding safe and effective use of medical equipment through independent and/or formal instruction.
- Functions as a member of a team to provide efficient service delivery to all accounts within assigned areas.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
- Ability to perform duties according to assigned rosters or plans that can be formulated in times of authorized service exigencies.
- Ability to use the relevant computer applications related to job functions.
