JOB SUMMARY: Responsible for organizing, coordinating and/or assisting with: supervising all HIS staff; assisting with the assignment of ICD-10, CPT codes to patient accounts; assisting with optical imaging/scanning routines; performance improvement activities; Meditech report writing; auditing daily reports; guest relations; other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

JOB SPECIFIC CORE COMPETENCIES:

  • RHIA or RHIT.
  • Ability to effectively communicate, coordinate, and organize all functions within a health information department.
  • Attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Strong understanding of HIPAA Privacy standards.

EXPECTED BEHAVIORS:

  • Assists with annual evaluations.
  • Assists with Assignment of ICD-10 and CPT codes to patient accounts.
  • Assists associates in their duties when appropriate.
  • Assists with optical imaging/scanning routines.
  • Facilitates in quality monitors for staff.
  • Works with Patient Financial Services to resolve coding/billing issues.
  • Prepares and facilitates audit appeal process
  • Communicates coding and documentation changes and/or needs to practitioners and their office staff.
  • Monitors quality and performance of assigned areas.
  • Participates in CQI teams as appropriate.
  • Assists and/or participates in team development for targeted CQI projects as assigned.
  • Communicates regulatory standards continuously and as changes occur.
  • Prepares and/or compiles abstracting reports for various departments.
  • Honors others' rights to privacy, dignity, respect and confidentiality and by consistently so doing sets the same expectations of others.
  • Confronts individuals/situations assertively and nonaggressively, respecting the rights of others.
  • Uses tact and discretion during crisis situations, while remaining calm and fostering a sense of confidence.

  • Completes payroll through API, biweekly, by noon deadline. Assures accuracy of hours worked.
  • Completes birth defects, IOPO mortality, RHC monthly, ADR reports.
  • Assists with development/revision of policies and procedures and job descriptions.
  • Other duties as assigned.
 
Position Requirements

LICENSURE/CREDENTIAL REQUIREMENTS:

Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA); Registered Health Information Technologist (RHIT)

ADDITIONAL EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

  • Knowledge of ICD-10 and CPT coding systems with 2-3 years’ inpatient and outpatient coding experience, preferred.
  • Two to three years’ supervisory experience, preferred.
  • Knowledge of 3M Health Information Systems encoder, preferred.
  • Knowledge of optical imaging/scanning system, preferred.
  • Qualified to carry out job performance standards by one or more of the following:
    • Education.
    • Training.
    • Certification by the American Health Information Management Association.
  • Demonstrated communication and teaching skills.
  • Computer literacy.
  • Mandatory Continuing Education: Customer Service, Fire and Safety, Corporate Compliance (including Confidentiality), Infection Control, and education required by regulatory, accreditation bodies, scope of practice, and/or Hancock Regional Hospital.
