Job Description:

Reporting to the Engineering Manager, the Physicist/Engineer will lead process physics modelling and simulation efforts and support various scientific/engineering analyses. The role includes modernizing the Company's simulation codes and hardware, improving the Company's modelling capability, modeling various process physics, and analyzing the results to guide future technology and prototype development through commercialization.

NOTE: This role is subject to the incumbent's ability to hold an NRC clearance as well as their ongoing ability to maintain site access.

Roles and Responsibilities:

Lead the Company's process physics simulation and analyses:

  • Modernize GLE hardware and Monte Carlo simulation software where needed.
  • Apply parallel programming techniques to improve computational speeds.
  • Use statistical reduction techniques to increase computational efficiency.
  • Model various process physics using Direct Simulation Monte Carlo.
  • Develop and design code to include laser beam transport data.
  • Conduct simulations to inform test planning and predict experimental results, identify potential process improvements, and evaluate alternative solutions within the design trade space.
  • Analyze, document and communicate results to engineering stakeholders, as appropriate.
  • Lead future development projects based on DSMC results.
  • Assist the engineering and operations teams as required to advance technology development efforts and deliver project objectives on budget and schedule.
  • Undertake from time to time any other responsibilities consistent with the incumbent's skills, qualifications, and experience.
  • Adhere to the Company's security policies and procedures at all times.

Basic Qualifications, Education, and Experience:

  • Must be a US citizen
  • Must possess a US NRC/DOE Q-clearance or equivalent (DOD Top Secret)
  • Bachelor's Degree or greater in Physics, Chemistry or Nuclear Engineering from a four-year college or university
  • Experience with computer simulation, modeling, and mathematical analytical techniques
  • Strong programming skills in languages such as C, C++, Fortran, etc.
  • 5+ years' experience in computational physics
  • 5+ years' experience with Monte Carlo methods

Desired Qualifications:

  • Masters' degree or PhD in a relevant field
  • At least ten (10) years of applicable experience consistent with basic qualifications
  • Experience with Fortran programming language
  • Experience with Boltzmann transport properties
  • Software development practices such as continuous integration and revision control
  • Experience in the nuclear and/or uranium enrichment industry

Competencies:

  • Experience with design, development and operation of computer simulations and models.
  • Experience with hardware requirements for computer simulations.
  • Ability to analyze system requirements and performance as well as develop and implement solutions to technology issues.
  • Ability to perform calculations necessary to validate designs and solutions before implementation.
  • High attention to detail, with the ability to identify technical deficiencies.
  • Execution of allocated tasks within project deadlines and budgets.
  • Ability to multi-task, prioritize work tasks and maintain focus and productivity.
  • Ability to anticipate potential problems and contribute to identifying solutions.
  • Communicate effectively in both verbal and written communications, with a collaborative working style that fosters good relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Ability to work autonomously and as a lead subproject engineer, with limited support from other staff, whilst remaining engaged as part of the greater team.
  • Ability and openness to learn new value adding skills.
  • Ability to use Microsoft Office products including Outlook, Excel and Word.
  • Holding an existing NRC Q-clearance [or Current DoD TS clearance].
  • Experience operating in a classified work environment is essential.
