Special Collections Processing Intern, Summer 2023 (Gold Rising)

Job Summary:

The Special Collections Processing Intern will gain hands-on experience working with an archival collection of paper-based material directly related to the field of study, or expressed interest, of the candidate. The intern will organize, arrange, rehouse, describe, and create inventory records for the selected collection. The intern will be supervised and mentored by a department Archivist. In addition to the processing, the Special Collections intern will have the opportunity to shadow department staff in areas including acquisitions and public access.

This is a limited term internship position beginning in June 2023 through August 2023. The hourly wage for this role is $16.90.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Working in collaboration with the supervising archivist and manager, will be assigned processing projects that the intern will receive training in but will then be required to work self-directed.
 
Position Requirements

Qualifications and Requirements:

  • Undergraduate (junior or senior) or community college student in good academy standing.
  • Live in or attend college in Los Angeles County.
  • Interest in applying to a library master's program highly desired
  • A minimum of 2.8 GPA
  • Interest in film and film history
  • Interest in databases and organization of data.
  • Ability to work self-directed.
  • Highly organized and detail-oriented.
  • Will be working at two locations (Hollywood and Beverly Hills); must have reliable transportation.
  • Previous work or internships in a library or archive environment a plus

This internship is part of the LA County Arts Internship Program, which provides undergraduate students with meaningful on-the-job training and experience working in nonprofit arts organizations. This internship is part of the Academy’s Gold Rising program, an 8-week internship enhancement program that incorporates learning opportunities including an intensive two-day orientation, weekly panels, exclusive networking events, workshops, screenings, and mentorship opportunities with Academy members.
