As a Women’s Head Fashion Designer, you will be accountable for the entire design and creation of women’s athleisure clothing products that align with the Alphalete brand while also staying on trend. This is a full-time (40-50 hours a week, as needed), exempt position.

Essential Job Duties:

  1. Increase sales through successful design and creation of women’s fashion that aligns with the Alphalete brand and remains on trend and in demand
  2. Hire, manage, coach, and develop a women’s fashion design team comprised of highly competent and capable individuals who achieve the organization’s women’s fashion design strategy and initiatives

 

Other Job Duties & Responsibilities:

  1. Women’s Fashion Design Strategy
    1. Complete US & global market research to identify trends and innovation, trend board creation, designing, sketching, tech packs and establishing expression of fit
    2. Identify the needs of target clients and develop a product vision that aligns to these needs; through the design of the upcoming seasonal product assortment, the Designer must bring their vision to life
    3. Develop, oversee, and execute on-brand fashion for the Alphalete women’s clothing line, and annually present an updated fashion campaign strategy for CEO approval – ensure that strategy is in line with overall business strategy
    4. Establish, recommend, coordinate, and execute design efforts to align with Alphalete’s branding and revenue goals
    5. Adhere to department standards, construction, grading/tolerances, and safety
    6. Protect brand integrity
  2. Women’s Fashion Design Budget & Reporting
    1. Develop, recommend, and gain approval from the CEO an annual women’s fashion design budget to ensure revenue, profitability, and branding goals are achieved
    2. Maintain approved fashion design budget and monitor for adherence, recommending adjustments (and gaining approval) throughout the year
    3. Establish insightful KPIs / metrics and report on a weekly basis to the CEO highlighting any anomalies (good or bad) and recommend a plan to enhance or correct issues
    4. At a minimum, formally meet with the CEO daily to review pertinent metrics and work in progress
  3. Women’s Fashion Design Execution
    1. Develop silhouette and product classifications, within the framework of the Alphalete brand and design plan
    2. Coordinate the design and development process for multiple products / categories from concept sketches and technical packs through final prototype / adoption
    3. Draw, sketch, and plan designs for fashion apparel/accessories; create matching or aligned pieces for a collection
    4. Create easy to read, technical packages, including construction details based on Alphalete’s standards, for vendors to follow
    5. Create or edit images and graphics for websites and/or print
    6. Provide direction on specs, pattern, construction methods and techniques to improve fit, balance, and overall quality of products
    7. Research fashion trends and similar designs; Create samples/tests/prototypes of design pieces
    8. Collaborate with manufacturers for fabric and trim materials
    9. Main POC with the manufacturer(s) for all women’s fashion – communicate and give fit and design feedback on products received
    10. Review product for style, fit and construction during presentation
    11. Create a plan to manufacture designs with the CEO or other design team members
    12. Display design pieces at fashion and trade shows; present to creative team and CEO
    13. In collaborations with the men’s head of fashion design, develop policies & processes that ensure all fashion design runs smoothly and establish a women’s fashion design department that promotes teamwork across the diverse aspects of the organization’s functions
    14. Attend conferences, sessions, fashion events, and seminars to stay up to date with changing design trends
    15. Ultimate accountability for the quality, timeliness, and brand alignment of fashion work completed by all direct reports
  4. Supervisory Duties
    1. Improve and continue to develop the structure of the organization’s women’s fashion design department
    2. Identify and hire highly competent and capable team members who embody the Alphalete brand
      1. Collaborate with HR regarding all hires
    3. Develop, mentor, coach, and guide direct reports to help them advance their career
    4. Conduct performance evaluations annually (at a minimum) and as needed to ensure direct report performance meets or exceeds expectations
    5. Collaborating with HR, coach, remedy, and discipline behavior and/or performance which is below standard
    6. Collaborating with HR, terminate and off board team members who are no longer a match for the company
  5. Other job duties as assigned by management

Position Requirements

Qualifications:

  1. Bachelor’s degree in Fashion Design, Merchandising, Art, or related studies and/or a combination of education and relevant experience.
  2. Seven (7) or more years of experience creating and developing women’s fashion design in an e-commerce / retail organization
  3. Technical design and conceptual experience creating garments as tech packs
  4. In-depth understanding of design principles, fashion, and the fashion industry, as well as product development and manufacturing processes
  5. Five (5) or more years of leadership experience, growing and leading teams through organizational change and transformation
  6. Functional knowledge of MS Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, Power Point) and design-related software platforms
  7. Expert functionality with Procreate, Adobe Creative Suite, and Adobe Illustrator or other creative design platforms
  8. Ability to partner with offshore manufacturers, domestic importing, and/or foreign trading companies
  9. Ability to balance day-to-day operational tasks and needs with fashion design strategy outcomes
  10. Ability to travel up to 10% of the time
  11. Ability to do sketches by hand
  12. Ability to meet multiple deadlines and manage within development calendar

Physical / Environmental Demands:

  • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
