The Academy Museum of Motion Pictures furthers the understanding, celebration, and preservation of cinema through inclusive and accessible exhibitions, screenings, programs, initiatives, and collections. Welcoming visitors from Los Angeles and around the world, the Museum works in active partnership with motion picture artists and specialists, scholars, staff, and diverse communities to contextualize and challenge dominant narratives around cinema, inspiring discourse, connection, joy, and discovery.

Reporting to the Director and President of the Academy Museum, the Senior Manager of Board Academy Member Relations will serve as the primary liaison and administrator of the Academy Museum's Board of Trustees, and other Academy committees related to the Museum. This role is also responsible for ensuring clear and responsive relations between the museum and members of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, an international membership that engages with the museum as advisors, visitors, donors, and collaborators. Additional responsibilities include organizing and executing board-related functions, such as board meetings, actively engaging with board, committee, and Academy members; and representing and promoting the Academy Museum and its goals among multiple constituencies.

You Will:

  • Oversee board-related calendar and activities in partnership with the Director and President, and in coordination with committee staff liaisons, including logistics, reporting and correspondence, training, orientation, meetings, record management, and events.
  • Oversee calendar and activities of the museum's Inclusion Advisory Committee and the Academy's Branch Executive Committee Museum Subcommittees, in partnership with the Director and President and respective museum team members.
  • Implement and execute positive and effective communication strategies with museum and Academy staff, board and committee members, Academy members, donors, partners, and other stakeholders to keep them engaged and informed.
  • Respond to board-, committee- and Academy member-related correspondence and communicate on behalf of the Director and President, emulating the director's 'voice' for a large volume of communications, including remarks at special events, meeting talking points, and materials for various speaking engagements involving internal and external audiences.
  • Maintain records of Board and Committee proceedings, maintain the archiving system, and select content posted to website and archiving system.
  • Manage the Senior Coordinator, Board and Academy Member Relations who supports the above administrative functions.
  • Keep the Director and President, and senior staff abreast of significant matters within the Museum Board and committees and foster positive relationships on their behalf.
  • Ensure that staff, trustees, and committee members are following procedures.
  • Ensure that the organization complies with our bylaws.
  • Track member terms and coordinate bylaw changes.
 
Position Requirements

You Have:

  • A bachelor’s degree required.
  • 5+ years of relevant experience in a non-profit organization or museum preferred.
  • 5+ years of experience in board governance.
  • Exemplary organizational skills, attention to detail, and a tolerance and knack for managing multiple requests/projects in a timely manner.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to cultivate professional and business partnerships with internal management, staff, trustees, and donors.
  • Ability to independently handle written communications as a representative of the Director and President.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite programs: Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams, PowerPoint.
  • Flexibility to occasionally work evening hours.
  • Ability to hold confidential information with integrity.

  • Full vaccination against COVID-19 is required, including any booster vaccinations as applicable.

The expected base salary range for this role is $80,000 to $87,500. The actual base pay offered will be determined by factors such as experience, skills, training, location, certifications, education, and other factors permitted by law. Decisions will be made on a case-by-case basis.
